Multiplayer Game in Game Maker 8

Hello! I am working on a team project which will be a top down shooter/RPG. I was wondering how to make a proper multiplayer game in game maker (I am using 8.0) that includes creating game (server) and joing game (host). Is there a easy way to do this with scripts and how long will it take?

Backward engineer -> look at the code/files and see how they setup a connection then use it in your project.
