MSN Account Email

First of all I'm pretty sure this is nothing but a scam, but I've only heard of a few people getting the email, it says this:

"Dear 'Full Name',

Microsoft has decided to suspend your Live account ('yours'@hotmail.com) because more important users want to have their hands on your screen name.
Microsoft Corporation gives you one week before suspension. You can pay us $500.0 USD to keep your account, cause thats roughly more than what our client paid for your account.

If you have any questions regarding this email or the payment methods, then contact us through this email.

Helpful as always,
Microsoft Corporation"

I'm thinking it's a scam, as it was placed in junk mail after supposedly being sent by microsoft. Anyway I suppose this topic will eventually get closed, I'd just appreciate any confirmation that it's a scam.

don't worry, Microsoft will never delete your e-mail account (for the time being I think, what with them trying to phase in Microsoft Live) but even then they wouldn't charge you $500 for your email address or say "more important users want to have their hands on your screen name." like that whatsoever, besides, what was the sender's e-mail address?

If that's word-for-word, then I'm surprised you didn't see it as a scam in the first place. There are quite a few grammatical errors, and I don't think Microsoft would use words like "'cause" or "roughly." Roughly $500 bones? They should totally consider a MENSA membership.

As I thought, my mate was kind of bugging over it.

Why you would think that's real is beyond me. MSN is free, and in order to keep it you would have to pay? I would say "Fuck it" and leave their service if that was true.

This is a bona fide Scam. Microsoft only makes you pay for Hotmail if you want extra features with it, but it is free to get the basic hotmail. Also the payment amount is nowhere near 500 dollars for any of the extra things. sure its 500 dollars, for about 2 or more years of service not including price increase. I suggest you report it to Microsoft so they can deal with it...
