Mother 3 Translation Released

The good 'ol boys are almost done as in LESS THAN A WEEK DONE (I'm guessing Friday).  I never bothered to finish Mother 3 in its Japanese form because translation guides are clunky and awful but FINALLY I get to complete the trilogy in its entirety and maybe motivate myself to work on my own game who knows.  I'm so fucking stoked that I actually dumped the image from my own cart.  THAT'S HOW HARDCORE FAN I AM

This thread is open to discussion about Mother in general, how Nintendo hates Itoi and this series including fans of the series, and Mother 3 itself once the patch is released.

p.s. nintendo fucking sucks and i hope this thing gets something like 500,000 downloads in the first night and crashes starmen's servers and nintendo realizes they could have made a mint if they weren't assholes and just translated the damn thing themselves.

i wont miss lucas in all his ace ventura hairstyle glory tho. :}

mother zero sucks, and mother 2 was good. i hope this one is more similar to mother 2.

What? Earthbound Zero was the American name before Nintendo canned it and Mother 3 is totally different from Earthbound/Mother 2.  The battle system is like this crazy music thing where you mash buttons to the beat and it's ridiculous because literally every battle has it's own unique song.  The environment isn't as varied or weird as Earthbound (no tuning your soul to a robot to send it to the future to battle the pure essence of evil) but the storyline is more mature, kind of sad, and it takes place over the expanse of 5 years or something so you get to watch the characters and the world around you grow.

Last night I stayed up late hitting refresh on the blog a bazillion times waiting for it to update. I'm so tired, but hell if it wasn't worth it.

It seems like yesterday they were messing around with Variable Width Font...I am so stoked for this :D I have my flash cart all primed up and ready to go. I just hope their server doesn't crash the day it's released.

I really can't wait. I've kind of spoiled the game for myself by this point, so I guess I mean that in a literal sense. It's still going to be so worth it, though, that I really don't mind knowing about X before it happens.

When we translated it...

Two fucking years ago!

Then mato comes up and is like "Woah, we have Ghideon and shit!" and it's like, "Well, that's nice. We have the game translated save the Mr.Saturn dump and some of the misc. descriptions, we could use the coding help" and he was like "lol, no. We're gonna re-translate the game ALL OVER AGAIN FOR THE THIRD FUCKING TIME for no reason!"

So all you folks who ever got upset that the game wasn't released by this time last year or whatever you know who to thank.

That said I think mato and his team have done a wonderful job and I can't wait. I'm trying to Pandora my PSP so I can take this bitch on the road. :P

It's not that hard actually...

So long as you have a soldering iron and know what you're doing, lol.
Plus I have a spare battery that I'm not going to pandora, so if one gets bricked I'll always have the other. And I'm not going to use my normal memory card. And if the spare battery does get bricked I can use my friend's pandora with my spare mem card and flash it.

@Miek: Yeah, they brought me in a little while after their first translator had a hissy fit and left the project for who knows why. I wan't the head translator, but I did most of the minor side-stuff (spell names, descriptions, items, towns, etc etc etc.) The original translator had translated pretty much all of the story text and it just needed to be cleaned up a bit. By the time tshu and the starmen folks merged we had the script pretty much done (maybe a half a month's worth of work left) and then they wanted to do it all over again. mato's translation might be better, but I dunno. I'd like to think ours was better :P

@steve: The PSP's core hardware is mostly located on the battery. How PSP's get bricked is when the PSP does it's initial startup a chip on the board in the battery. If you (EDIT- I don't know if this info is legal to post here or not >_>; PSP defaults to full-service mode. You then have the extra battery to dump the rest of the hacked firmware from. Batteries that have their security chips modified are called Pandora batteries. The problem is later games won't run with a Pandora battery, so you have a clean battery, and a pandora one to run from. It's also hella' easy to swap the two around.

You're removing some sort of chip from the battery called an eFlash or something like that (mine was already custom firmware so I didn't have to fuck with it).  This chip is what updates the PSP's internal battery or something.  The magic memory stick is formatted with firmware 1.5.  You're basically tricking your PSP into thinking it's a brand new factory PSP regardless of whatever firmware is installed.

No wonder you liked Okage so much.  Even Earthbound, which was a pretty barebones game to begin with, was more fun and carefully balanced than Okage.

I really like the old-school RPG systems, and adding updated graphics is cool with me.

EB did have a problem with grind at the very beginning and the end, but with Okage you can see your guys on the screen. :P

Personally, I would've liked Earthbound's dungeons over Okage's, and Okage's combat over Earthbound's.
