THE SETTING

The story of Morbid Awakening is set in a fantasy world of Treter. A planet filled
with many races such as humans, elves, wizards, fiends, druids and other critters
and beings. There are many continents in the world of Treter. The 3 most populated
are Nua, Casia and Shinda. You start of in Nua although there is not really a way of
telling where you are as this is a demo game lasting 1 and a half hours plus and you
don't get to use the world map either which should be usable and ready in the full
version.

(This game is based on a manga which I was going to write but I don't think my
drawing skills are good enough. Instead I decided to turn it into a game as most
of the illustrations I gathered matched my characters images.)

(Note: This is a demo version of the game. So only

Chapter 1: Capture
Chapter 2: Escape

are playable in this demo. There are quite a few small cut scenes in this demo to.
Also a cut scene variation depending if you decided to go back for the Captain which
you will find out about during game play.)

PROLOGUE

When the Kilos Organisation rise up to power, they begin to use forbidden
magic or Alchemy and train Alchemist's to suck up the resources on the planet for
their own use. Unfortunately the Kilos Organisation are praised for sucking up the
minerals of the planet and use them to generate buildings for many countries.
This is starting to effect the world. Many lands that shined brightly have become
dark and gloomy filled with twisted creatures that never existed before. What no one
knows is that the Organisation isn't as great as people think it is. They are also
responsible for the destruction of many towns, villages and deaths of many citizens
which is unknown to the world. What are the Kilos Organisation really up to?

Play as the main protagonist of this story, Artemus Shadowbreaker, also known as
the Crimson Alchemist. Artemus becomes criminal in the lands of Shinda and Nua.
This occurs after leaving the Kilos organisation where he is made one without a choice.
He ends up in Nua after being followed by soldiers and is eventually captured by the Nua
army then put in the Natu Prison Station. Awoken by another criminal in the Station,
Artemus manages to get out of his cell where he learns that none of the soldiers are
on patrol. "What the heck is going on here?" says Artemus. With the advantage to now
escape, he must find a way out of Natu Station alive, along side with his two new friends, Kenji and Husa...

Gameplay Video

It's a little bit laggy and slow. Plus the music didn't seem to record well. This part of game is where chapter 2 starts off.

So far I haven't received any feedback yet for my project. Please can someone play my game as I'm looking forward to the comments and thoughts of this community... :barf:

First I thought this game was interesting, because you actually play a criminal, someone who opposes the law and who is not rightous...When I played the demo i was kinda disappointed there. Because Artemus is actually one of the "good" ones.
But anyway, I kinda wished you would have wrote something relevant about the characters. Nice to know how tall they are and what weapon they use, but really that's not interesting at all. Does the height have any relevance in the game? If not, just leave that info out, it's quite pointless this way. Instead tell us something about your characters, their personalities, background, goals, relations etc...
Because the presentation of story and characters didn't really invite me to play the demo, I did it anyway to give you some feedback.
For the demo, I think the robots at the beginning don't match the RTP, but that's really only a very small critique point. The mapping is ok, I've seen worse, but I've also seen better. I think putting some lights around the torches on the walls and a darker screen tone could also add so much to the atmosphere.
It's nice that you use the moghunter treasure and location thingy, but you could have at least change the graphics to something original! You sure have a lot of chests with potions...a bit too much if you ask me. Also it was very annoying having to read "Its a red/blue treasure box" at every single one you open. I understand it for the first one, but I am not blind, I see that it's the same object again, no need to always tell me again...
Another annoying thing, at least for me, was that "peep" tone and the white glow for the character speaking. I think you don't need that, because your speech bubbles clearly show who is talking. I didn't like it much.
I liked being able to run, cuz the maps are big and you have to walk quite some miles everytime, so that was well done.
Also I liked the battle system. I'm a fan of this type of system because it is quite realistic. When you cast you have a certain delay again etc, that was also well done.
Story wise, well not bad, you introduced the incidents interesting enough to keep the player wanting to know more and more, however the beginning in the mine was a bit odd.
I didn't quite see why Artemus went into the mine, as he knew the soldiers were following him for quite some time now... I did like chapter 2 more, because it was more interesting, but also a bit predictable at times.
The key search was rather boring. One key opens the door to the room with the next key and so on, I think if you maybe put in a puzzle here and there to open a lock/door in an alternative way, would be even more fun.
So the story is quite nice from what I've seen, nothing totally innovative, but it's solid and what's important, is that you tell it in an interesting way! Because as long as it's interestingly told it can be any story.
Oh, and you have one feature, saying: 3 playable characters, well really it's just 2. Husa does basically not exist. He only says 3 sentences and it seems he's just there so you can defeat the monsters. You really should work on giving him a personality and letting him interact more. Even though he might be a quiet type, those are the hard ones to create, because you have to convey a lot with a few words.
So all in all, this can be a promising project! I hope you keep on going and I hope I could give you some points to think about.
Good luck with your game!

Yeah, Husa doesn't speak much...throughout the whole game he will say very little because it's just his personality but you will learn more about him as the game progresses on. It's meant to be an epic fantasy game similar to the final fantasy series with a dark and morbid plot.

Also! it is 3 playable characters because how does just because he doesn't talk, make him not a playable character which makes no sense at all...

Also there was a bridge puzzle in chapter 2 when you escape into the sewers...

Another thing is that I'm trying to make my game newbie friendly which means the difficulty increases during progress which means for bosses, as well as puzzles and battles.

You'll understand why Artemus goes into the mine in the full version as it's not so easy to explain without playing more of the game which I've developed more recently but have been busy with other things which is why I haven't made much progress. Chapter 3 is going to be at a halt for some time...

Also there was a bridge puzzle in chapter 2 when you escape into the sewers which wasn't very difficult to eventually sus out...

Chapter 3, no the full version is going to be at a halt for some time. I've made more progress with the project but I'm not going to release it till I've completed it. But I know where I'm heading with the story and the game itself. Unfortunately, college and work are getting in the way of my time as well as other things like clubbing and playstation3 :P...

There will be a world map too and the game will continue from Natu Ruins...
I will probably revise some of the issues above when I get back to working on this project again as well...

Anyways I'm glad you took time to play my game.

This is one of the projects I've been working on. A very old one too. It's been on hiatus for a while though while I've been developing my other projects but heres a game play video. I've updated the thread placing the video there too...
