monitor time!!!!!

buying 2 monitors as a birthday present for a special gamer in my life.

as he is an avid PC gamer I'm looking to get him a monitor with less than a 5ms refresh rate, and preferably 5000:1 CR. has to be 1900x1200 or 1920x1080 native resolution.

as he is definitely not artistic or pays much attention to color, color count and banding are not a big issue. pixel ratio and pitch will not matter.

preferred is a matte finish to the screen as they would be semi-facing a window.

as i am getting two of these suckers I am looking to spend as little as possible!

right now i'm looking at this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6824236075
ASUS MS238H

But the price tag is kind of ick. I feel like i could find a better price out there. probably not much better than $160/per but that's still saving $60+ on two.

i have to buy this before the 25th. any suggestions?

Actually, that's about what you're gonna have to spend. I have an Acer H233H and I love it. It has a 40,000:1 contrast ratio, but the response time is 5ms. It also takes forever to start up or switch inputs (it has 3, an hdmi, dvi, and vga). It also has built in speakers,m but at 1.5w each, they're shit. I just use my 5.1 speaker system for the computer, and my 5.1 simulated headphones for 360/ps3.

speakers don't matter b/c he uses headphones for everything.
all the bells and whistles like extra usb ports etc dont matter either.
mostly just the refresh rate.

The one you linked I think is probably pretty good. I've been looking to get one of the 22'' models of the same thing but I'm too poor haha. That one should be great for gaming, Super high dynamic contrast ration, but the static contrast ratio is still more than the human eye sees.

oh hey yeah the 22' model is $20 less each and same res. nice :shades:

and they have mail-in rebates too ... hate those but hey it's money, even if eventual.

cabinet doesn't look as slick but the dude won't even notice anyway. not really a form over function type.

ordering! woo!

also ...
... wow monitors are so much cheaper than when i got my last one >:/ same one i paid nearly $600 for then is like $400 now, ugh

That's actually not the 22'' of the same model, it's a different model, that's why the shape is different :P And there's more difference than the case, the dynamic contrast ratio is only 5000:1 and the static contrast ratio is 1000:1. It's not necessarily a huge deal, but the colors will look more washed out than on the other one.

oh you're right. i had them both open in different tabs and must've been confusing the model numbers :P

still haven't ordered yet, started to, but i'm kind of on the fence. still have a few days to do it.

wait the 23" and 22" of that model are the same price

i realize that typ the image is SLIGHTLY crisper on the smallest possible screen for a native res but hell the 22 is a ripoff right now

also lol @ 'dynamic contrast ratio'
we give you 10 MILLION:1 CR
MILLIONNNNN
(that's 10m:1 dynamic ... static is 1000-800:1 ... shh just look @ the big number)

it has an led backlight instead of a fluorescent though. wonder what diff that makes on longevity.

my monitor is a gateway <something> 24" 1080p, 1920x1200 with 2ms response time. only cost 160.

idk what it's called, but there's your guidelines.. maybe you can find that.

?????? ive been looking but cannot find results that are reasonably priced
arent you looking at your monitor? usu the model number is on the lower right cornerish

bought them last night.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6824236071
this is a good ass deal! also got free cleaning kits.
i could've gotten a free newegg backpack too but that increased the shipping fee by $12 so screw it. don't really need a backpack.
if anyone buys over $70 worth of stuff before Aug 1st, the code for the backpack is FREEBACKPACK. (wow)

anyway hopefully he'll be happy. thanks for the recommends, cool cats B)

sorry, here's the link for my monitor: http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529668253.php

it was on sale at bestbuy last year before my birthday, so, sorry :-/

i forgot that i had this program on my computer to change the monitor settings and etc. that had the version # and product name. however, this is way beyond your price range anyway, AND you've already bought your monitors, so.. why am i posting this? wtf
