Monitor resolution problems

Looks like I need your help again... it's about my Monitor this time, a pretty old 'n dusty YAKUMO model... well, the problem is that - for some reason - it dislikes small resolutions like 640x480, which is kind of unhandy for RMXP games run in fullscreen (I play them windowed most of the time either way, so that's not the real problem) and even more for older games that simply run in 640x480 fullscreen no matter what...
The funny thing is: I think it's a software fault because I can remember playing 640x480 games on the screen and even tested my resolution script on it, going down to a resolution of 240x160...

So yeah, my question apparently is: What causes this, and how can I fix it? Maybe as for all things, there's an utterly easy thing to do like checking a checkbox somewhere and *magic* it runs fine again...

JFYI, I have the default drivers installed (no idea where to get new ones or if new ones're needed at all) and run it on a GeForce 4400 graphics card with Omega drivers.

Thanks in advance ^^

What do you mean by "dislikes"? You talking about monitor crash?

My monitor is widescreen, so I can't fullscreen games anyway :(

Actually you can, they will just be stretched :P

I have a 24 inch widescreen, would never go back to fullscreen, heh. I don't mind playing fullscreen games stretched.

As for BlueScope's problem, I would just get a new monitor.

actually, the drivers are the problem. Try searching the web for info on your graphic drivers. In fact, I will look it up for you. I will give you a link by PM once I find the info. Update the drivers and let me know if it works now.

BTW, some drivers will never work with some things no matter how much they are updated. My VIA S3 Unichrome IGP driver will never work with the Aurora Neverwinter Toolset, for example.

EDIT: I need to know what OS you are using. I can't get any further in finding the info without the OS..

For the "dislikes" (stupid me for not explaining it >_< ): If I run applications with a lower resolution than 1024x768, the screen gets cropped and I can only see a part of the screen. It's a part out of the center, but not exactly the center, I think... the screen is also a lot darker and has occassional graphical errors (a stupid fat scanline for 640x480 and a always-moving mouse cursor for 800x600).

@Died: Unfortunately, that's not an option, as I have to spend my money on living completely, so I can't really spend money on a new monitor...

@Eliwood: I run a WinXP PC, SP2. As said in the first post, I'm already using the Omega drivers, sadly... those are graphic card drivers, though, and I believe there are monitor-only drivers as well... bite me for knowing nothing about it, but yeah... I'll look for it and update this if I can find something.
Thanks for your engagement, btw.

Blue if you can find a computer shop around your area or something, just look for old ghetto used monitors or something. I picked up a pretty nice monitor (that had a crack in it) for $15 USD. If you can't afford that, then you suck.

Guess what, I got it fixed... kinda. It turned out that it was because I switched off my other plugged screen (which is my broken laptop screen) software-wise, aka disabling it by using the Fn-key (laptop-only, I think) + F4 combination... so, now that I don't do that anymore and leave both screens active, it works with all resolutions I need...
Guess you could call this solved, though I wonder wtf is up with my screens really... ^_^"

Thanks for your help, everyone.
