Mod Trouble? Member getting you down? Who you gonna call?

Lately a lot of folks have been saying some pretty bad things about .org - most of them based on past events and from people who haven't visited the site in years, but bad nonetheless. To be honest it gets you down after putting a lot of effort into running the site. Personally I think we're in a better state than we've ever been but it seems some people still think we "rule the site with an iron fist" (quote), "only care about mod's posts", etc. Now I'm perfectly happy for anyone to have whatever opinions they want about the site but: you're here, right now. If you don't like the site then it would be immensely helpful both to us and to you if you told us rather than your friends! (Or as well as!)

I understand that now Venetia is no longer an admin there is no real "community relations officer" to go and speak to with your problems. However, always remember that the staff are people too - and if you ever want to talk, or even just to rant, then there's no better people to speak to. If you have a problem with how a staff member has dealt (or hasn't dealt) with something, talk to an admin. If you have a problem with how an admin has dealt with something then there are five of us (shadow is a technical admin and doesn't browse the forums much, no offence meant to him) - feel free to speak your mind to one of the other four. If you want it to be in confidence then all you gotta do is say so, we'll respect your wishes.

The same goes if you're having a problem with a regular member/sponsor. If you feel they have been treating you or others badly, repeatedly breaking rules, or the other way around - repeatedly being picked on - then don't hesitate to tell us, we'll do our best to help.

There's been some confusion about who actually are staff and who aren't. Quite a few times people have referred to "Treg", "Despain", and "Teloch" negatively, in relation to .org, not realising they haven't been staff in a long time.

The biggest reason for people having problems with this site is that there are way to many posts like "You're an idiot!" and "Go look it up!". Sure, when new members post for help, they should look before hand, and give it their best shot, but most of the time I see other members beating up on other members.

Maybe there should be some sort of rule (and or honor system) having to to with being kind. Sure, that sounds kinda' gay (no offense to.. um.. gay people..), but we would surely benefit from it, would we not?

Next time I feel it necessary, I will defiantly contact you, Commodore; however merely talking with the staff won't fix this site's problems.
:smoke:

Do you mind giving us some examples of where you see this? I don't doubt that it occurs but I must not be seeing something that you are, since I don't often see this kind of behavior.

Awesome Bro

Lol yeah, I don't really see members calling newbies idiots or anything... and neither do I (... What a suprise !), although if someone asks for help, no matter how new they are, and I give them help, but they choose to ignore it completely (Like, not even acknowledge I wrote it), then I'll make sure every further post I make in the thread points at the helpful post... reasonable ? Maybe.

Aye, though I haven't seen anyone say either in a long while. :cute:

We do have rules against trolling and flaming, and the Beginners Lounge is here now. :)

This rarely happens, and when it does, it is usually because the poster made some ignorant comment that pisses people off. Of course, this has been cut down significantly since I first made an appearance.

I actually prefer the way you guys run the ste in general. In my opinion, you are strict on what needs to b strict and not strict on things that are not. For example, the project discussion thread. I like all those guidelines and rules that are up currently. By doing this, you eliminate crappy projects and the thread isnt a bunch of mindless spam. This also goes for how you post and stuff like that as well.

Without rules and guidelines, this site would turn into RRR, which would turn off many people. :)

I honestly dont think its the mods fault at all, it is the people themselves. There are always going to be dumbasses who do stupid things and whatnot. You just have to live with them and hope they change. This also include newcumbers (newcomers) as well. Everyone starts out new. Its up to you on how you want to contribute to the site. Are you going to help the site and make valid critism or are you going to be a dumb ass and post useless spam. Its how you evolve as a member tha matters, and if the mods have to tie you down and banish you, so be it. No one will probably miss you. :)

I don't personally see what the problem is with this site.
I've been here for a while, and I donated $15 because I liked it so much... The scars of Despain remain.
But seriously, I get told plenty of 'mean' stuff. But I know you're not really being mean...
Right guys?
... Guys?

Well, I dunno; the difference is we won't ban you if we dislike you. Folks still might have opinions, they're human afterall, but unless you're being a major ass and/or breaking rules then you'll still be around.

To be honest Zack in your case it's just when you do silly things like linking to furry porn sites :p I don't think anyone actually "hates" you otherwise.

Awesome Bro

I can't hate Zack, he's a british fag rag... but the main word in that phrase, is british...

PS - Arbi is right

PPS - Arbi is Hitler

PPSH - Is the weapon I will use to kill Hitler.

I can't really give examples, 'cause it's true, it hasn't happened in a while. Nonetheless that is the main problem associated with this site.

That's all I can say I guess.....
