OK, the concept and storyline are old, as in from my past, but this game is fresh. I attempted to make this same storyline into a game a number of years ago, but it never made it past the beta stages and was attempted using a completely different game making engine. I had previous experience with RPG maker back with RM2K, but did not like it's heavy limitations. Recently I found my life in a place that once again allows me the time to dwell in all
of these tales that are spinning around in my cranium. Inevitably I was drawn back to this little story and was once again compelled to attempt to translate it into a role playing game. That's when I revisited the RPG maker community,
and that's when I discovered RMXP and its scripting capabilities now. This removed all those old limitations of RM2K!
I figure I could attempt to make the prequel game once again. Seeing as the game already incorporated a number of elements why not slide in all of the requirements of the five year anniversary contest seamlessly into this game as well
and enter the contest? Why not indeed. . .
Once upon a time
in the far away future,
on a non-existing world,
lived a less than extraordinary
bloke known by the name…
Fen Pogo.
He was to become the first
in a long line
of great and mythical heroes that
would come to be known as…
Dungeon Dwellers.
That is yet to happen
in the past.
When we first meet up with good Fen
he is little more than the town hoodlum,
spending most of his time in the local pub
soaking up the ale and the rest of his time
trying to seduce the town wives and daughters .
But all of that is about to change!
Dungeon Dwellers.
Mine of the Minotaur.
You begin gameplay as our unlikely hero Fen wakes up in the pub feeling, um..., a little under the weather.
As gameplay progresses you are sure to run into an individual who calls himself "Lexington LeGrande the Great".
When and where you meet this "LeGrande the Great" depends on, like much of the gameplay in "Mine of the Minotaur",choices and decisions that you (the player) make.
Upon meeting "LeGrande", he offers you an enormous treasure in exchange that you steal back a special item that
was taken from him long ago. The only catch is in where this item, as well as the treasure, now reside.
If you choose to accept the quest, it is then that true gameplay begins.
For it is on this quest that you as Fen go from being the town drunkard and all around hooligan
to the first in a long line of legendary horoes and heroines that would come to be known as
Dungeon Dwellers.
There are a number of custom features in this game, some great mini-games and side quest, and although the in game graphics are RTP based, almost nothing has escaped my paint program, there are a lot of original graphics in the game as well. The game, as far as eventing and coding systems go, is pretty much completed but I want to focus on NPC interaction, tweaks on storyline and game flow, and devote a large amount of time and energies toward the game graphics. I will attempt to post some screen shots in the screen shots thread soon.
