Microsoft's recent faggotry

So, about two weeks ago, a friend of mine told me that Microsoft was going to stop updating windows XP soon, and make everyone buy vista :pissed:. By not updating the XP, it won't be able to detect new types of viruses that vista can. So basically, if i want to keep XP, i might get a ton of viruses that i won't be able to get away! :dead:

Now, considering Billy's retirement from Microsoft, i suppose it's the new leader that has gotten this fucked up idea about killing XP, and I really hope his mom hates him.

I also really hope there is a way to make them change their mind...

Well, it's an "outdated" product, and it's their business to decide what they want to do with their products.

I'm waiting a while, atleast until nVidia stops releasing XP drivers, to upgrade, but unfortunately, it's an inevitability.

I just wish they had a "Vista Lite" version that was not so retarded and RAM-snorting.

Meh. You might as well just wait for the next version of Windows to come out... and buy an antivirus in the meantime.

The deadline for retailers to sell copies of Windows XP is up. Windows XP's end of life for updates isn't until like 2012 I think. There will still be at least one more service pack before there's no updates for it.

Man, have you heard?  Nintendo stopped making SNES games!!!  How dare they.  Now if I want to continue playing new games, I have to - gasp - buy the companies newer products that they are focusing all their time and effort on?! D:
How dare they do with their stuff what they like >:\

What is next?  Mitsubishi'll stop making monitor connecting pin for my television model, simply because they no longer retail my TV which is several years old?  Those bastards D:<

SNES IS GONE!?!?!!!!111

But seriously mr.sixtyandaquarter, there is a pretty big difference between Nintendo's gaming consoles and Microsoft's Windows systems. When Nintendo makes a new gaming console, they make it for better gameplay, better graphics support etc. But vista is not even better than XP, it's just full of pretty animations (which kills your RAM btw), beginner/child friendly menus or whatever, and the whole "we'll keep you safe by blocking all the coolest things you could possibly use on this computer" thing.

Please, never compare software and hardware again.

@Shadow: Yay. I hope that's true. If so, it's good news.

Pshaw, don't tell me not to compare software and hardware - I could've used a thousand examples but I happen to be looking at SNES sprites.

The difference is not that it's "not better" anything.
The similarity is to push a new product.  You spent X amount of money to develop an article.  You wish to sell said article.  You're a fool not to do what's in your best interest, by not rotating other items in your priority list.

You can't blame a company if they chose not to invest more money and time and effort into a program that they are trying to bill as second rate compared to their new program.  They spent X amount of money to develop a newer item, they aren't going to lose face by making the difference between their new "first rate" article, and their old crummy second rate - get rid of it so we can make money article.  That's just horrible nonsense.

You want me to do software, fine.  Here's a made up example pulled from a hat.
Norton comes out with a new antivirus protection program.  They spent a whopping large sum to develop, advertise, and produce it.  They want to sell it.  They want you to have it.  Their old version, it's gone.  They allow you some grace time so you can get this new program by still supporting the old (kind of like how they continued making SNES games - oops there I go again).  Then, they stop it.

Windows 2000 has extended support till July 2010, to coincide with the Windows 2010 (codenamed Blackcomb, and then Vienna or some horribel crap).  XP is still considered current.  Previous versions like Windows 3.0 - updates?  Why would there be?  We're "moving on" to "better" things according to all our advertisements.

You can still use previous versions of Windows like Windows XP, like I use.  You'll just have to do things slightly differently.  Get real protection from the internet and your problems solved until all the great programs become incompatible with XP.  Then your just screwed between an ego and a dollar sign.

Now, considering Billy's retirement from Microsoft, i suppose it's the new leader that has gotten this fucked up idea about killing XP, and I really hope his mom hates him.

Oh my god they killed Windows I hate them
Oh my god they killed Windows 2.0 I hate them
Oh my god they killed Windows 3.1 (er... was there a 3.0?) I hate them
Oh my god they killed Windows 95 I hate them
Oh my god they killed Windows 98 I hate them
Oh my god Windows 98 SE has made Windows 98 redundant I hate them
Oh my god they've now killed Windows 2000/ME/whatever I hate them
OMFG they've killed Windows XP they suck

What's new?

The thing that pisses me off is that my computer guy refuses to take Vista off my computer.  He says it'd take waaay too much time and cost too much for me.

...So in the mean time I got rid of the pretty but useless menus, turned off all/most animations, and told the computer that it has no control over what I open.

See I don't get why people go to computer guys.  Why not just uninstall it yourself and downgrade?
Sites like THIS ONE tell you how.

Whether you  installed it next to XP or whatever, upgraded to Vista from XP. or bought a new comp that only had Vista - all 3 options are there.

EDIT:
BTW check a few more sites, because I'm not sure the reliability of that one - and it's all at your own risk :p

Treg will do it for thirty dollars but your issue of xp will have to be pirated.  Good luck updating.

.... honestly it's not very hard to uninstall an OS, and only takes an afternoon to do that and install a new OS? I mean it's just like reformatting, which I've done like 4 times this year alone :/

i will become a unix faggot before i switch over to vista.

i used windows 2000 until no programmer was developing for it. i'll do the same with xp.

Ok, i didnt even bother to read all the replies. Only thing i know, is don't like vista.

Doesn't matter, Windows 7 is in the making and they've planned to release it in early 2010, good thing is, it is supposed to be lighter than Vista, and even XP!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7

So... rest assured my friends, you don’t have to buy vista when they decided to stop supporting XP.

umm...lol the "lighter" thing is why vista sucks ya know..

@Wyatt: XP is a good working system.
