I don't care much for this either myself, tbh.
I mean, XBone has been a PR disaster right now. And rumour has it that the PS4 will be a fair bit more powerful than it, hence the emphasis on TV at the reveal. Now as a would-be indie, the power of course doesn't concern me much, but that it will concern others, does. I mean, all of XBone's chances right now is riding on the E3 reveal about the 15 exclusives. And I don't like their vagueness; are these game exclusives, or time-based exclusives? If the latter, that won't carry much weight. This installed playerbase is gonna be tiny. And I hope these exclusives won't include much in the line of FPS; the 'brodude' audience which would by the console for Halo/CoD/Battlefield exclusivity aren't the type to delve and explore indie games. Plus I can't help feeling that this announcement is meant to make indie developers feel greatful; but call me jaded or ignorant, but surely Steam paves the way to success for indies more than consoles? I've been out of the Console loop a bit, I'll admit, but I follow a fair degree of gaming news and the like; where are the console-only successes like FTL, Binding of Isaac, Game Dev Tycoon, etc etc? I can't help feel that the PC audience is more embracing of such titles. I mean, the 3 games indie games I've listed have gotten successful enough to become fads on Youtube. I mean, Binding of Isaac is a FLASH GAME for crying out loud, something which so many people would not usually pay for.
