An age when magick was commonplace
And kingdoms ruled the earth...
Our tale begins.

To whomever reads this,
As you may or may not know, I'm a medicine student here in Costa Rica. Of course, I do not mean to stay here. I'd rather do a residency in the United States, preferably, Internal Medicine. For this, I have to take four very hard tests known as the United States Medical License Examinations (USMLEs), popularly called the Steps. These are Step 1, Step 2 Clinical Knowledge (CK), Step 2 Clinical Skills (CS), and Step 3. All of these tests evaluate a different component of the medical studies, including the basic sciences, the knowledge of diseases and how to treat them, and the human side of medicine.
The reason why I'm telling you this is because I will be taking my Step 1 a year from now. I had originally planned to do it somewhere near December 2012, but I also have to take another test here in Costa Rica for my clinical rotations around November of the coming year. Taking into account I will be moving to Chicago to study for the Step 1 next June, it is simply not feasible going to the US, coming back to Costa Rica to take a test, going back to the US to take the Step 1, and then coming back to Costa Rica to start my clinical rotations in January 2013. So I will be taking my Step 1 next October.
That is to say, I'm already running late to start studying for this test, a test you are not allowed to repeat. I guess you guys know where I'm going to with this, that is, if you didn't get it from the thread's subject: I'm leaving HBGames.org, at least until November 2012. Hopefully, HBGames.org will still be here, waiting for me, unlike so many other RPG Maker sites that have, with time, come to their inevitable deaths.
I'm also putting Medina Stories on hold. Heck, I don't even think it can be called a hiatus if it's such a freaking long time. I'm releasing what I had so far too. If I would've had a few more months to work on this, I could have finished the core systems.
On the upside, if everything goes according to plan, and I hope it will, this same time next year I'll be one step closer to becoming a Cardiologist.
Although individually, I do not know any of you, as a group you guys are to me like a second family. And I will miss you. I'll miss helping people with Ruby scripting. I'll miss playing new RMXP games. I'll miss being both praised and harshly criticized for my project. I'll miss Wyatt's hermaphrodicity, Venetia's sexuality, Brewmeister and Bluescope's objectivity, and even Despain's idiocy (in occasions). I hope this is not the last I hear from you guys.
Sincerely,
Juan J. Sánchez

Nabastean. 36 years old
A loyal knight branded as a traitor.
A captain in the Order of the Knights of Nabatea, Bella achieved renown as a gallant and brave hero credited with countless victories on the battlefield. He is a man of justice who cannot abide inequity.
Unlike other captains, who are chosen from the aristocracy, Bella is of common blood and enjoys the love of the people, until he inexplicably murders the King on the eye of a treaty-signing with Siria. He is led away in chains.
What could drive so loyal a man to slay his oathsworn liege?
Nabastean. 19 years old
A princess who had lost everything.
The only child of King Basilas and sole heir to the Nabatean throne, Flamma is believed dead following the King's death. She meets Bella and the others under the most unlikely of circumstances.
Flamma knows all too well she lacks the power to right the wrongs committed against her and her kingdom, but she will not allow herself to admit defeat.
Nabastean. 32 years old
A dashing pirate.
He would describe himself as a noble thief, stealing only from those who deserve it. He goes where he pleases, swearing fealty to no one. Rumors in the streets of Medina tell of him being a vanquished captain of the Order.
While roaming the seas of Eorde with Juvo, his partner, he still makes time to charm the ladies with his silver tongue and put wrongs to right - grinning all the while.
Jadean. Age unknown
A master chemist.
A Sirian chemist, Juvo is as much at ease with a flask as she is with her bare hands. Her proficiency with metals is matched only by her skill with a sword, as she often has to resort to battle when Felis gets into trouble. She also handles the maintenance of Felis's ship, the Argo.
Juvo is believed to be a demigod, with a lifespan far greater than that of humans, and many secrets lie hidden in her long history. Yet, the clash of race does nothing to diminish the bond of trust between her and Felis.
Nabastean. 27 years old
Bella's right hand.
Like Bella, Alis is a captain in the Order of Knights of Nabastea. He watches over Bella, trying to keep him from getting into too much trouble with the other captains.
Though he lost his family in the war with the Empire, Alis is ever cheerful and well established, as he comes from a long line of aristocrats.
He enjoys the lighter side of life, but Alis is not altogether unfamiliar with battle. When he was young, his brothers, previous captains of the Order, taught him the principles of combat. Once elected captain himself, Alis showed his true value in the battlefield, leading several squads to victory.
Alis believes that in perseverance, there is hope.
Unknown allegiance. 17 years old
A girl who sees freedom in the skies.
Living the slums of Siria, Mirus maintains an air of hope even under the oppressive rule of the Kingdom. But she longs for more: a life without borders of authority.
Not much is known about Mirus before reaching the streets of Siria. Most of the time, she watches the sky as if wandering in between dreams. The only thing more mysterious than her thoughts is her past.

Character development in MEDINA STORIES is based largely on the acquisition of "licenses". Licenses are required to equip weapons and armor, learn magicks and technicks, and enhance a character's abilities.
The Basics
In addition to enabling a character to equip various items or cast potent magicks, there are also licenses to boost stats. Licenses can be obtained on the "license board" by using "license points" (LP) earned when defeating foes. Each character has a license board; however, the layout of the board is the same for all characters.
Simply obtaining a license for a magick or technick automatically allows a character to use that ability. Once you have acquired a magick or technick, any of your characters with the proper license will be able to use it.
Licenses for ability enhancements do not require any items and are effective immediately after being obtained.
Choosing Licenses
You are free to choose which licenses each character acquires. There are several categories of licenses, and using LP to obtain them will gradually open up new licenses on the same area of the board. These newly unlocked licenses will often be more powerful than previous ones and thus require more LP to acquire. To ensure smooth adventuring, you should focus character license acquisition on the areas in which you wish them to excel.
License Board Layout
The license board is loosely divided into six different areas:
If you wish to make a character skilled in magicks, it would be wise to allot most points to licenses in category 1. On the other hand, if you prefer a character who excels in physical attacks, it would be better to focus on obtaining licenses in category 6.
The License Board
The license board can be displayed by selecting "Licenses" from the Party Menu and choosing a character.
License Board
The layout of the board is the same for all characters.
Available LP
The current amount of LP the character has to spend on new licenses
License description
A description of the currently selected license.
Licenses Already Obtained
Licenses already obtained by a character are displayed in color.
Available Licenses
Licenses that have yet to be obtained by a character are displayed in light gray. The number in the lower left corner of an available license is the amount of LP required to obtain it.
Locked Licenses
Detailed information regarding locked licenses remains hidden until an adjacent license has been obtained.
