Marksman


Marksman is a 2d platformer, with Elements of RPG and Shooter.
It's gameplay is set in a cave 3 levels long.

World Overview :

It is set in a fantasy world. World's appearance is like
medieval age, with tools and weapons more advanced than ours.

Background
:

Marksmen are people who joined the Marksman Guilds.
They are like mercenaries, doing any kind of job, or errand
for a sufficient amount of fee. Many make a living out of it.

Story :

Main Character, Haony Lancen is a 17 year old boy,
whom his family kicked to a Marksman Guild because he was
useless at home. After two days, a man comes to that guild
desperately seeking for help. Seeing that there are no other
members available, he turns to Haony offering him 70.000 E.
(E is short for Essence which is value used in their world.
It is not used for trading, but for creating things directly
with appropriate tools. 70.000 E is a HUGE amount. You'll see if you'll play.)
Hearing that amount, without thinking( Literally) he took
everything he possessed so far( few potions, pistol, and some tools)
The task given to Haony is to rescue that man's sister,
from a Cave, he claims she has been kidnapped to.
The Game Starts only after he arrives at the Cave!

Career: Useless idiot, so far!

Haony is a Lazy idiot, who only wants to sleep, sit, eat and play.
His family tolerated him, until they got Completely tired of him
and kicked him out to a Marksman Guild. Accepting his first quest
his life is in your hands. It's up to you to make him something more
than a Useless Idiot, or get him killed!

Features

- Choose skills, and Attributes at Level Up!
- 2 Bosses.
- Few lesser gameplay features.
- No Jumping unless necessary.

you might want to try lowering the contrast on the back tiles, or making it less busy..
especially in the last screen it's really hard to see what's going on
i think it'll be a bit less bad when the screen's moving and stuff, but still
i mean if you look at that screen your eyes are drawn to the bottom part, which is much easier on the eyes
that can't be the intention ;D

other than that, looking cool

As am I. How does jumping work, and does the system run smootly?
Your maps are all very plain, theres nothing but the ground. I know detail is hard to get in as theres a time limit (I'm having the same problem), but you could at least put some rocks or something if it's a cave. The final thing's the graphics. RMVX's graphics where made for a 3/4 perspective view, and the graphics look a bit wrong being used as a side view.
But anyway, it'll be intresting to play because it's different. I'm really intrested to see how everyone's projects for the challenge so far have been so different.

The thing is, I'll fill the graphic details later, since now I'm working on different issues. System runs smoothly, so far.
As for the jumping system, it says in the features that "No Jumping unless necessary.", which means you'll only be able to jump up, or down the cliff.
No jumping over the enemies. :blush:

Marksman typically use weapons that use long-ranged combat such as a sniper rifle. Looks pretty cool though, but remember:
A dungeon does not just require being dark and having enemies - A good dungeon needs puzzles, secrets, and traps. ;)

This game is put in a different world in which, definition of a word "Marksman" is different than ours.
As for the puzzles, secrets, and traps, I'll certainly try to put Some in. :biggrin:

I like this, this looks really good. You could beef up the backgrounds a little bit though. But I really one play this one.

Quick question;
What happens when you run out of ammo and you can't jump over enemies? Do you just die?
Perhaps a knife could be added?
 
I think the main problem with the game is the gameplay and core design itself. All I have to do is hit a button and shoot. There is no jumping, no exploring, just a linear path. Its repetitive. You say you will throw in some puzzles, but overall the game just sounds like a whole bunch of button mashing and moving. I cannot even jump or do anything action based. Not even the enemies seem to vary other than their health.

Well with the time limit that's been put, here are things that I put in game to be less boring: 5 weapons, as I mentioned before, 10 various skills, portable craft system (which is actually a Shop System in RMVX, but since you don't use Gold to Trade, but Essence to Create things directly, I called it Craft), 3 Armors and
6 Accessories, 8 potions, 2 Bosses (which, unfortunately aren't so different from normal enemies). And off course I'll try to put various other things as I go on. :thumb:

As for @Numb's Question, you can't completely run out of Ammo since you have infinite Ammo for the basic weapon(pistol). :grin:

And one more thing, you can always use some tactics, like: jump down, shoot the enemy, then jump back, and repeat that. Also enemies Only attack you once they see you, and back off when you leave( meaning that they will attack you when you are on the same line as they are, and not attack you when you jump up or down one line.) :specs:
