Mario Kart Wii Discussion Thread [Possible Spoilers]

MKWii is quite a lot of fun, though the graphics leave much to be desired again. Tip for anyone who does like the game and does not want to see secret characters,

Do NOT play time trial as the ghosts in there can be unlockable characters.

So far I'm really liking a midweight on the mach bike, though heavy weights got an awesome bike too called twinkle star. Which is kind of a sissy name for a heavyweight bike and I've been enjoying putting mii's representing people on it. Bike's in general have much less problems with the "handle stat" than karts, thus it isn't as problematic steering with the mach bike or bowser's ride. Allowing you to pick top speed without sacrifcing much.

Every heavyweight can ride every heavyweight kart/bike. So not only Rosalina can ride it, hell I didn't even have her when I unlocked Twinkle Star, I just put a mii or a giant ape on it

Well considering this game has come out, I thought I'd bump it up. (I hope this isn't necro-posting)

So far I have unlocked most of the bikes and karts, and unlocked half the characters. The dolphin dasher is my favorite.

Hopefully, the online will be better than Brawls. So far, I haven't had good luck with Brawl's online play.

I've had a 100% luck with online! I crush' em every time. Although there are some people who try and turn around, and crash into you.

I got disconnected, but I was able to complete three races. Did pretty good, though I lost two of them. You know those moments where you're in first, and a barrage of items hit you...yeah.

But, the actually online seemed as seamless as an match with real people. I had one small spot of lag though, where sometimes people would dissapear and suddenly reappear (Unless their is an invisible item in this game...if there is, I haven't gotten it yet)

That happened to me too, but theres no item, I just thought they kept disconnecting.

I'm having trouble battling online. Once I hit a guy who was right in front of me with a red shell and he didn't lose the balloon (And no, he wasn't using a star). Then I got a Mega Mushroom and squished him, but I used "A" to look behind me and he was normal.

However the second I got hit with a shell my balloon disappeared. ;_;

The races are fine though.

I'm slowly plugging away at this game. I'm not very good, but I'm not terrible. Just took me a while to get used to doing the drifting boosts. The online component works seamlessly for me, but I wish there were taunts or something to make the experience more personalized or something. I like downloading peoples' ghosts and racing them, though, to see how I stack up.

I really like Dry Bones. Not sure why?

I'm slowly plugging away at this game. I'm not very good, but I'm not terrible. Just took me a while to get used to doing the drifting boosts. Yeah taunts would have been good, and Dry Bones FTW!111! My favorite though is my Mii, and my favorite level is... Coconut Mall, but online no one seems to want to play it.

I tried this at my friend's house but its pretty damn bad.

No local co-op grand prix, two multiplayer modes, vs and battle. Both force you to have a full group of players (adding computers where necessary). Why are there no free-for-all matches in battle mode?

Also the wheel controls (sideways wiimote) are terribad. Using a nunchuck/wiimote or GCN controller makes the game about a thousand times easier. It shouldn't be harder using a different control method, but with less responsive handling and being forced to do complex button controls (jump/slide turns and wheelies) while manipulating the angle of the controller is a huge handicap.

Also, the items suck.

All in all, a completely lacklustre game. Back to Brawl.

I had pretty high hopes for this, but it feels like exactly more of the same (since the wheel is pretty much holy #$%& bad and you can't use it, it's so bad they even have special trophies for people that actually manage to do it somehow) but worse. I play with my brothers and sisters, so it's all just fun really, but I quite like it, but I can't even play brawl, still haven't got a release date. :sad:
