Mario Kart Wii Discussion Thread [Possible Spoilers]

Mario Kart Wii

Mario Kart Wii is the latest Mario Kart installment to come in the long lasting series. Ever since Super Smash Bros. Brawl was released in Japan I haven't been as excited about it, so the next game for me is Mario Kart Wii.

This thread is for discussing anything Mario Kart Wii related, such as the controversy over the inclusion of motor cycles and anything else.

5 control styles confirmed, like in brawl, Wii Remote on side, Wii Remote + Nunchuk, Game Cube Controller, Classic Controller and the new official Nintendo Wii Wheel

12 player online multiplayer racing with online leagues and ghost data transfer

Old weapons plus new ones

Motor Cycles added into the mix, a possibly a big mistake?

New stunts, if you pull off a stunt you get a boost, probably like the jump-lander or power slide of the previous games

16 New tracks and 16 classic tracks including tracks from Mario Kart, Mario Kart 64, Mario Kart Double Dash and Mario Kart DS

10 battle stages

15 confirmed characters, possibly more

3 Karts and 3 Motorcycles per character

Remember the rumor about the EU Mario Kart Wii being released before the North American version? It's true! The EU version comes out one day after the JP release! Nice to see Nintendo tackling this release date problem we've been having recently.

Release Dates
Japan - April 10
Europe - April 11
Australia - April 24
North America - April 28

Other than the motorcycles I wonder what else they're going to add. (besides the 12 player race online)
This looks like it could be the best one in the series, I'm taking DD and DS back this weekend, lol.

It's interesting that they are mixing things up with motor cycles and stunts, but in my opinion it just removes the whole "Kart" part of mario kart.

wowowowow

i gotta say, gutsy move to add motorcycles and stunts into the mix. it can potentially ruin the formula we all know and love.. but it can obviously make it that much cooler too.

gotta say, im not all that amped about this game, but it'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

Hmm.. Europe gets Mario Kart before America...

But America still gets Brawl first.

Wonder who wins out in that deal? (hint: it's us)

You know, I think adding Motorcycles ISN'T a mistake. Nintendo wants to add something new to the series. so far, the game looks fantastic. I really liked Double Dash, and I know this game won't fail me. And, the fact that it has Online it wins in my book.

I expected loads of people objecting to the motor cycle move, but yes, Nintendo are mixing things up which is great, I'd still play the game regardless of the motor cycle inclusion, I'll use the bikes too, but it just seems not very kart like.

imo it lost that cart feel for me back on the NDS mario kart where wario started driving the oldschool caddy xD
hopefully the man'll have his smash bros bike in this one =D

Yes, he has the WarioWare Inc bike, or as you say, the Smash Bros. Bike.

Famitsu magazine has revealed that the Wario Bike from the WarioWare series will be one of the vehicles used in the game.
He also has the classic wario costume, the good one (Before the wario ware inc), the alternative in smash bros brawl.

i dont dislike warios new outfit, but the old one is much cooler... maybe its cause the lakers colors.

Oh joy of joys, finally I get to laugh at americans regarding release dates!

...we'll get you for Brawl, some day...

Anyway.

Don't really mind motorcycles, though stunts feel kinda strange to have in a Mario Kart game. It'd probably be good even if it was Double Dash with online added in, so.. what's there not to like?

WHAT

You're acting like the difference between motorcycles and karts is as pronounced as it is in real life. They had motorcycles in Mario Kart DS (well, a motorcycle,) and aside from the obvious stat differences from kart to kart nothing had changed. If they want to add more stat diversity for motorcycles, though, good for them.

Let the poor dudes at Nintendo design the racing machines the way they want, 'kay? We gave them enough shit for not including every character ever in Brawl. :<

I've had the chance to play Mario Kart Wii myself! I came 1st position in both the races on the Luigi Circuit, my best time is 1:41.72 :D
When I first played (With the Wii Wheel) I didn't realise how sensative it would be, so after knocking down everyone with a start boost I skidded off the first turning straight into a wall, the terrain off the tarmac has a much bigger effect than in the previous games, so after crawling back onto the track I took out the CPUs and the 3 humans I was playing with the classic green shell. The most annoying item is the POW box, it acts like a thunder bolt in the way it hits all the players, it just slows them down though rather than shrink the players. The two races I played had the jump disabled and the stunts disabled, so I was unable to try those out. I played as Peach on the first race in her normal kart and then Yoshi on the second race in his normal kart, on the second race I fired a load of green shells behind me whilst in 1st place securing my position, I finished off the human played with a behind dropped Bomb! I got all 3 of my rivals with the one drop! The worst part is that the items make a huge difference in game-play, you can't win on skill alone as the items the CPUs and humans use will heavily effect your gameplay.
With the Wii Wheel, once you get used to it, Mario Kart Wii is an awesome game and it all comes naturally to the experianced MK player, without the power-slides I had to re-use my MK N64 skills from back in 2003; I still got it...

MKWii is quite a lot of fun, though the graphics leave much to be desired again. Tip for anyone who does like the game and does not want to see secret characters,

Do NOT play time trial as the ghosts in there can be unlockable characters.

So far I'm really liking a midweight on the mach bike, though heavy weights got an awesome bike too called twinkle star. Which is kind of a sissy name for a heavyweight bike and I've been enjoying putting mii's representing people on it. Bike's in general have much less problems with the "handle stat" than karts, thus it isn't as problematic steering with the mach bike or bowser's ride. Allowing you to pick top speed without sacrifcing much.

I'm hoping that I can actually save up for Mario Kart Wii by the end of the month. I seriously think that this will be a game that'll be too hard to put down. Quite frankly I'm bored with Brawl already because I unlocked everything within a week so I need to turn my wii on again.

When we had Double Dash, my family and I would play it literally every weekend and never get tired of it.

You wouldn't happen to be talking about
Rosalina
, would you =P She's, by far, my favorite character so far, so I'll be happy to unlock her when I get the game.

Every heavyweight can ride every heavyweight kart/bike. So not only Rosalina can ride it, hell I didn't even have her when I unlocked Twinkle Star, I just put a mii or a giant ape on it ;)
