i want my main character to be wearing a baseball cap, i made this from scrath, and i would like some feedback,

This is pillowshaded, and in a very ugly way. I think a visual would help more than anything I could say.

I kept your outline and colors, so it's hard for me to make anything really spectacular, but I think it shows some improvement. I don't think that the shape you have is the best, the thing could be curved more in general -- it looks very much like a rounded hard helmet. I really don't like your colors, either. Especially the black outline, you should always avoid pure black and pure white in sprites.

yea that looks really cool, but doesn't it make it look like the light source is going from the side then? because the front of the cap is lit up more??

Typically in most shading the light source comes from one source and it's USUALLY from the top left, but you can experiment with it, etc. Des' example is a perfect example of that idea.
