LUNAR:Dragon Song-remake

poster.png

About the project.
If anyone has played any games from Lunar (LUNAR: The Silver Star, LUNAR: Eternal Blue, LUNAR: Silver Star Story Complete, LUNAR: Eternal Blue Complete,LUNAR: Walking School/Magic School LUNAR!, LUNAR: Legend, And LUNAR: Dragon Song) you would know just how great the series is. For info on the Lunar series please visit http://www.lunar-net.com/lunar.php The last game to come out of the series is Lunar: Dragon Song for the NDS system. This game has been called a failure many times over. It should have been a mile stone in the series but it was rushed in production and given a really poor translation. Here are just a few reviews: http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/ds/review/925564.html I recommend the review by GhaleonOne. So here are the reasons for the remake:
-The only way a 3rd Lunar will go into production is if the series has more fans. This is a great way of doing just that.
-The game is regarded as a failure to the revival of the series.
-I have the backing and support of the greatest and offical fan website of Lunar. http://www.lunar-net.com/
-I have an official and VERY RARE list of the original characters and locations, 80% of which is not in the final game.
-I'm a huge fan of Lunar and the rpg maker series.
The goal for this remake is to bring attention back to this great series in hope for a 3rd Lunar. This project can be done. Everything that was left out of the offical game will be added to the fan remake. The document of pre-production characters and locations is such a rare treasure, there's no way it can't be used.

Sorry for no word on what's been going on... I edited the main post and fixed some stuff. Game is coming along well after I restarted. I've got the format down as far as design goes so that's a mega push in the right direction! Perit Village is about 75% finished. The story has been majorly flushed out and I feel it will turn out mega awesome.
The basic story taken from the Instruction booklet:
A long time ago, this world was a dead world where no grass or tress or even air existed. The Goddesss Althena descended to this land, attended by her Dragonmaster and Four Dragons. Her magic power made the arid land fertile and transformed the dead desert into a world full of green. The beautiful, reborn land soon became a new place for people to live. The Goddess Althena blessed the people and the world. The Dragonmaster vowed eternal loyalty to the Goddess Althena and vowed that he and his dragons would protect her and the world.

The beast-men were a race of beings with massive physiques and superior physical abilities including fundamental boyd
strength, good reactions, and super endureance. In contrast, humand were a race of beings that, while clever and handy with tools, had small physiques and weak physical abilities. The beast-men preferred a flashy lifestyle and built lavish palaces in the center of the world, while the humans lived on the outskerts and preferred teh simple life.
Their contrastiing lifesyles allowed the two races to maintain an approriate distance and served to maintain the peace
with a delicate balance.
Main Characters (All Orginal Art Work)
MainCast1.jpg

Jian Campbell-
The Hero of this episode, Jian works as a courier in the harbor town of port Searis. He is full of curiosity and has a strong sense of justice.
Lucia Collins-
The heroine of this episode, Lucia is like a sister to Jian, and a fine partner in the courier business. She is cheerful and sunny by nature and hates complications.
Gabryel Ryan-
Gabryel is an openhearted young lady who never boasts about being of beast-man stock. She has a spunky personality and is never content to be second best.
Flora Banks-
With an older brother who is the leader of a group hiding out at the Frontier, Flora has an innocent and hopelessly cheerful demeanor.

This is what Perit Village will look like...kinda. This was a VERY early push to isometric.

Older PRE-Isometric picture of The star dragon's tower. I doubt any of the graphics will be in the final version.

Below is a picture of what the Blue Dragon's Cave will look like. The first picture is of this project and the second picture is of the original cave from the DS. Both pictures show the entrance. I did this because I wanted to show how different this project will be from the original. After the entrance the two caves will be nothing alike. The remix project's cave will lead to the blue dragon's temple.

You should see a picture from the original Dragon Song of port searis, and below that my new isometric map of port searis. The map has been scalled down to 25% of the actual size. A link to the full size is under the smaller one.

Features:
  • Mass plot changes. (the story doesnt really fit that well with the rest of the games.)
  • Traditional Lunar battle system.
  • Character plots will be greatly expanded.
  • Correct Items and names.
  • Locations. The birth of the great magical city of Vane will play into a large part of the game.
  • Walking around a town rather than just click and go. Larger towns will make you feel rather small. Lots to do. Not just shopping.
  • Huge world to explore.
  • More Characters.
  • Characters will be in a style alot like that of Lunar: Legend.
  • Gad's express will feel more like side stories rather than just getting items from monsters.
  • Lots of children. (for some reason no kids were present in DS?)
  • Remade maps of towns. Towns on the DS were set up as a simple point and click. Remade towns will look similar but fully explorable. If you knew where the Item shop was On the DS, you'll know where it is on the new map.

I'm in need of help because I'm unable to complete this project myself. I've tried to understand scripting but it's just not my place to understand it. This is a large project is coming along very well, it just needs help. So this is what I'm looking for.
**Scripter**
I'm looking for someone who could duplicate the traditional Lunar Battle and Menu systems. Here are two YouTube videos Demonstrating what I mean.

**Spriters**
I'm looking for someone who can help me with isometric sprites. Mostly this will deal with story characters.
**Mappers**
I'm wondering if anyone would be able to help with the mega, ultra task of map design. This includes isometric buildings and structures. Keep in mind that it will all be in isometric.

The finished project will be a mix of top-down and isometric perspective s.

no. pick one and stick with it. the isometric screenshots here look absolutely FANTASTIC. do NOT ruin this by throwing in a few inconsistent rtp maps.

Lunar: Dragon Song (or, as it was in England 'Genesis') was like one of my favourite games ever! If you get this finished, i will love you! ;]
Gonna be checking backhere often! ^^

Wow that's some high quality maps. You should definitely complete this project. From what I see right here, there's really nothing wrong with your story. So all I can say is ' I can't wait till you finish this.

The isometric is extremely good looking. I say go with that (even though IIRC Lunar games were traditionally a top-down affair)

Whichever you decide on, you need to stick with, though.

This looks good, but why DS? It was so awful. Nevertheless, good luck with it.

Well, that is kind of the point. To take that piece of garbage it was and turn it into something new and better.
I really enjoyed the GBA part of the series (I know it was only a remake, but... I think you know by now, that most good games are never released where I live) so I am really looking forward to a remake of this last part, that was quite a shame for the series.

Good Luck

I think mixing the isometric view and the top down view is a bad idea. Stick with one of them! The first screenshot looks sweet btw!

sorry it took so long to respond! I don't have Internet at home for the moment so I'm using my iPhone.

So I'm sticking with full isometric views! I'm redoing some maps and I hope to have something new to view soon. I'm happy that you'd think this is a good idea. I'm really in need of help with scripts and charatersets, everything else is going very well.

Avadan- how would you like to help? Charatersets need to beanout the same size as the rtp but not look like rtp.

arrg. Lunar dragon song was the worst piece of shit I ever jammed into my ds.

God I hated that game... But I like the music (some) though. ^_^

maybe I am over exaggerating, but if you get the really annoying things corrected like the battle system and the running hp drain then this could be a hit. (and put the original developers to shame!)

I don't think Lunar: Dragon song was THAT bad but the 'hp draining run of death'
WAS REALLY ANNOYING D:
I hope this goes well
Im really looking forward to playing
