A story of love, chaos, evil, deception, hope, and dreams..


Back Story
Once upon a time, when the world was shrouded in darkness and demons spied on the doings of man; A time when happiness was nothing but a whisper and fear filled the hearts of all. Under the moon of Ivaland a holy sword was forged, given the divine blessing of the gods, with strength great enough to make the heavens shake, its soul purpose was to vanquish the demons that had spawned and crawled this world. Man, full of sin and tempted by its strength tried to use the sword for evil, so the gods took the sword and placed it under the care of a angel, waiting till the day man would repent for their sins or be consumed by evil. Though as time passed the sword lay in dormant waiting for its rightful owner to come many years passed and times grew much harder, the gods had forsaken man giving them nothing but a glimmering hope that would never happen...

Though the gods turned their backs on man, one angel, the angel of pardon felt for man and blessed two families with son and daughter. Trained by the holy order, these two separate hero's unknowing of the other ventured off to the forbidden lands to put an end to the hell that was brought upon their world. Though try as they would neither could fend off the evil alone and had no choice but to flee the torn lands. It was later when the god of pardon visited both of these heroes telling them to search out one another for it was only when man could work together would they be able to destroy the demons that plagued them. She gave the male hero the holy sword and the female the blessings of holy magic in hopes that these godly gifts would be enough to destroy the great evil. The two Heroes fell in love and with the power of the gods behind them were able to destroy the evil and purge the world of wickedness, though in doing so the two lost their lives, sacrificing themselves for man. The legend of Ashuma and Naiba stuck in the hearts of man forever. Many years passed and it seems the evil that once rained upon the world is reviving, mankind fears for the worse and turn to the gods for answers praying for the heroes return...

Game play
The game takes place in a era resembling the feudal times in japan.
The player has the choice of choosing either two of the main characters in the game.
The worlds being overrun by the demonic forces and it is up to you as the hero to
stop them.
In a large expansive world with over 50 towns, forests, and dungeons to explore.
A fighting arena gives the player a place to train and goto when bored.
Also there are many side quests that can be found in towns to play through
when you do not want to progress the story.
The many characters and choices you make help to uncover and mold the story.
You have the choice of letting the dark side of your heart control you.

Name: Ashikaga Noskey
Age: 19
Occupation: None
Interests: A family
Weaknesses: Magic, Status attacks
Strengths: Double Handed Swords
Favorite Food: Fish
Description: A young man born in a small unnamed town.
Without and father figure he looks up to his mother for strength.
After his town was destroyed by marauders and his mother killed he was taken
in by a dojo master who taught him the way of fighting.
At desperate times Ashikaga shows strength to overcome any obstacle and unknown powers that lead him to his eventual journey.

Name: Nagai Habiki
Age: 17
Occupation: Church Decorator
Interests: Fighting
Weaknesses: Swords, spears
Strengths: Hand to hand combat, magic
Favorite Food: Cake
Description: A young girl from the town of Olean.
She is one of 3 children of Fei Habiki.
Her best friend is the head of church Charles XII.
After her mother died, Nagai trained unknown to her father
to become stronger and leave her small town.
After a strange visit to the forests she knows that her life
is destined for greater things than her home town has to offer.

Age: 43
Description: The dojo master who resides on Lumia Hills.
A powerful warrior with a kind heart.
His optimistic and head strong attitude make him stand out in a crowd.
Once known as the undefeated champ of Letross City.
A mysterious character who seems to know more about Ashikaga
than meets the eye.

Name: Meiko
Age: 18
Description: The daughter of the greatest summoner in the world.
On her pilgrimage to seek out the holy magics of the land.
A cheerful and bright young girl who puts the needs of others
before her.
She known as the ice queen because of her love for ice magic.

Name: Tsukade
Age: 32
Description: A retired soldier who took up fighting as a hobby.
He travels the world looking for the strongest warriors to face in combat.
Though highly skilled with his sword his loyalty and ideals of righteousness
keep him on a path of good intention.
Always shows where a tournament is held.

Name: Keichi
Age: 22
Description: Very little is known about him his past or his true intentions.
He is a formidable foe, who seems to have some quarrel with Ashikaga.
Said to be the only user of the double sword style.


Name: Kikugawa
Age: 26
Description: A race of half cat people.
The lost son of the king of Dumai.
Though quite skilled in killing his opponents Kikugawa is often mistaken as a girl
because of his feminine characteristics.
Trained in the ways of the assassin.

Name: Garaloth
Age: ??
Description: A large green dragon; one of the four guardians of Eldei.
Wise beyond his years but the youngest of the four, said to still be a
child. fierce and powerful.

These are not all of the characters in the game but are the most important,
though you need only have two characters throughout the game.
All other listed characters are hidden and need special requirements to get.

With approximately 25minutes of playing so far..
All in all after everything is done the game should run about 4 1/2 hrs
without any side quests.

Once I have two more scenes added I will put the demo download up
So for now any critique on character description or story editing would be
appreciated, or anything about the below screen shots.

Also if anyone knows of any cool scripts I could incorporate into my game ie.
Game menu, fighting, world map monster. Help would be nice!

No good things I can really say...

Here are my comments:

1. Cliche story
2. Cliche characters
3. Those characters are really inhuman, theyre all great...

EDIT: I also forgot to mention I already expect this game a cliche game, cause your title says it all deary.
 
Okay, I don't really post here much. (Prefer to lurk in the shadows) but I have to post because I think this sounds really interesting and its a shame that person above me obviously didn't read a word of your post.

I think the story introduction is really well written and if the rest of the story is written that well I would really enjoy playing this game.

The character, Ashikaga, sounds a little generic/cliche. Sounds like the typical "parent-less farm boy with legendary hidden powers who becomes a great hero" thing but I don't care because I have a feeling this story will be told well!

I love the graphical style of the game, but I have issues with the graphics themselves. First, in the 4th screen, the faceset looks great but you need to cut out the background better because I can see those ugly white pixels around him. And in the second screen there looks to be tiny chunks taken out of that guys head. And finally, I think that window skin is nice but that pattern is a little too bold and distracting...

And finally, if you could come up with a better title... Legend sounds extremely cliche and is what led to that person's post above me. You've got a great story I'm sure you could come up with something better. Here's an idea: Maybe incorporate a name for the great demon slaying sword into your story and then use the name of the sword as the title of the game? :biggrin:

Overall I think this sounds great and I'm surprised this hasn't had more views/quality posts already. Good luck! :smile:
 
@Justin Lee- Dude what the hell!?
Cliche isn't always a bad thing, they are cliche because they work! Also are you a dude or a chick... deary?

While the storyline doesn't captivate my interests as posted above, it is told very well, which gives me the impression that the game will be told well. The added detail to your characters also make it loo like your game will play-out well. (I get tired of seeing character disrciptions that say: name, class, 'very small amount' history)

The characters may be 'great' but in a game were you inlist help you wouldn't go inlisting weak characters. (who actually uses Magicarp or whatever it's name is in the pokemon games? Understand my point there.)
So while they may not be otally believable they are almost expected and still relatively tasteful due to the variation in each character.

I like the graphics (they remind me of my style albeit smaller) are they custom graphics?
What engine are you using for this?
I must say I dislike that windowskin big time!

The title does throw me off a lttle but not much because most games with the title Legend have of such and such afterwards.
Overall it doesn't look all that bad, certainly some room for improvement but not too bad.

ps you're text/font seems to cut off inareas and the font isn't that attractive, do you think you could change that?

protip: pointing out that something is cliche, without so much as elaborating on what specifically is cliche, is not a good post. as this seems to be the only thing you ever post, my personal recommendation to you would be to stop posting
 
I haven't had much time to look over this topic, but what immediately jumps out at me are the character names vs. the place/setting names.

You say that the story takes place in an area similar to feudal Japan, and yet your places are named things like "Ivaland," "Letross," and "Olean." I would suggest renaming them to something more Japanese-sounding. "Noskey" as your main character's last name also has a fairly Western sound to it, so you might want to change the spelling on this--"Nosuki" or "Nosuke" look a little better (I don't know what that means though). Similarly, your church's name is "of Charles XII," a distinctly European-sounding name given the obvious Charles as well as the Roman numerals following. You may want to reconsider that name.

Also, I noticed that your background story involves angels and demons. While demons seem to be a generally universal breed, angels are more specifically Judeo-Christian/Islam beings. Gods or spirits would probably work better here.

I'll give this a better reading when I get the chance, but I figured I'd go ahead and point out a few of those things.

so with that said i'm still trying to edit and fix little details after the broader work has been done and so i can complete the story a little more before touch up is done.
I know the name LEGEND does sound very cliche, but its that same cliche title that would attract someones attention, its a name that doesn't give to much away. I like the idea of naming the game after the sword or maybe adding something on the end like Legend :something something something.
Or maybe just doing away with the small title an aim for something bigger?
right now though it plays a big part the title hasn't had any significant impact on the game itself.

By the way i'm a guy :grin:

It looks pretty good for a first game. Still could use some improvement in the areas of 'uniqueness' (needs to stand out a bit more than you're average game) either in story, gameplay or puzzles.
 
Well my main problem right now is that I'm using rpg maker 2003 to create this game, and i'm noticing alot of sites that used to have good scripts for 2k3 are gone or the scripts were taken down. now I like using 2k3 over the other rpg makers because the look and simplicity of it in my opinion is way better than xp or vx. the sprites in vx look too girly though the face sets are nice, the tiles don't all form together and leaves it looking empty. xp has some nice tiles but the battle system and the way the game glitches so much for me is a problem but both xp and vx have so many better scripts all ready written for them, and i with little knowledge of script writing can't make very unique scripts for 2k3.

so with that said, i'll either continue development and implement any nice script i find for 2k3 or i'll try and re create the game using either xp or vx. though i'd rather not go through all that, so if anyone knows of some nice scripts for 2k3 that would be highly appreciated.
some main scripts that i'm looking for are-

Menu screen: i'd like a different look to my menu's than whats offered.

Skill development/learning: Ok so basically what i want for this is something like final fantasy 10 with a skill grid system to learn actual skills

Map skills: best example breath of fire or wild arms, being able to interact with objects on the map, ie. cutting little bushes to find money or picking locks or jumping cliffs.

Stat system: i'd like a system where your in control of what stats you want to increase farther than what they go up when you level, so basically a lvl awards you stat points which you use to raise your stats, ie strength health ect.

Map monster: i want them to come after you like in grandia to initiate a battle though i can't seem to figure out a way to have a "patrol area' or "vision area" were the monster comes at you when you walk to close.

Item customizing: a crafting system for making items when you have the necessary creation items. weapons, cures, ect. the whole nine yards

monster movement in battle: i always hated how in all the rpg makers the monster were just a stand still boring image, it needs LIFE!!

I know thats alot to ask for, especially in a 2k3 game, but i'd love to use those in my game, i think it would make it 10x's better than it is now.

-any other scripts that you might think would help would be very helpful to me, so if anyone knows how to make these scripts or a good site to find them thank you!
