That is the population of the Sioux, of which Lakota are just a part.
Forget other tribes, forget those who consider themselves Sioux but are not living in the reservations, etc., or the "semi annexed nation", that's how many are legally Sioux and fall under these treaties.
How many would jump in though? That number would bounce up for sure.

I've only heard bits of this, but the "tax-free" living in their borders is true; however, there is a caveat: you have to give up your U.S. citizenship... I honestly think if this gets to big, we conquer. Go American pride.

If it was deemed only natives in ancestry could stay here and everyone else had to leave, I'd have to cut myself in bits.
On topic:
You realize if they take their settlement with the government they refused in either the late 70's or early 80's it would be close to one billion dollars from interest right now? Sure, they'd have to give up this fight (for a bit), but they'd be nearly one billion dollars richer - some have even claimed this is an attempt to speed that sum closer to the extra comma.

American pride refers to American nationalism (albeit an idea long lost), i.e the "melting pot of the world". To be American means to having the spirit and mind of the American dream... It's a nationalism, not based on how long someone has been someplace or what race they are... Saying the indians are more american than we are because they were here before us, is just as bad as saying white people are more american than black people because we got here before them. And imo that is just wrong.
