Kingdom of Souls: The Binding of Souls [Recruiting]

------------------------------------
well guys here's the download link. Gonna make a page on the site will full complete information.

DOWNLOAD preDEMO VERSION 0.5

File Size: 127mb
File Type: Installation .RAR (the installation had a mistake)
Creators: Zane D. Blalock
Project Use: Test the basic time system and fighting style so far of the game
Project Number: 1st
Length of Production: 2 months

Enjoy

*Reason for file size: The file itself is big mainly because I added the soundtrack for the game, with its huge bank of sound effects. And after piecing together my own installation for it, the size went up even a tad bit more.

Please leave feedback on any bugs that have yet to be discovered.
-Please note that the game is huge because of the music files, the DEMO patches that will be uploaded later in the future will NOT contain the audio files, that will be added separately to cut down download time - ZenOokami

Story: Your story sounds like a cliche nightmare. You have honestly seemed to twist a lot of unoriginal and uninspiring details into one project. Traveling to different video game worlds sounds incrediably boring and dull. Its a mockup and a poorly sewn veil. Listen, you need to think up a more original story. This sounds much like Kingdom Hearts and seems straight off it as well. How about you stick to one world with two kingdons clashing instead, as that sounds way beter than what you have right now. Now, the story about the mysterious figures killing the worlds off is a disaster as well. It basically turns into a true black and white story. What you lack is the grey area. Again, the whole story is extremely cliche beyond belief and needs to be changes pronto. Furthermore, I do not understand your story all that well to begin with. You do not describe it well. Some of your features dont seem to match the overall story and just doon't seem right. You need to evaluate what features match your game.

Your characters also fit a traditional cliche RPG, which is not a good thing. your characters seem to lack any unique and different character traits that set them apart or make the audience want to follow. You have a shitload of characters as well. With so many characters, you cannot have the time to develop that characters, making them flat and uninteresting.

Graphics: We will start with your mapping. Your mapping is decent at best, but in no way up to par to make a good game. I suggest going to the mapping improvement thread to get a solid critque of your mappings, as you misuse and overuse tiles. The lighting effects are bleh. First off, lighting effects do not make a good map, mapping makes a good map and no amount of cosmetic fog and fancy lighting will hide that fact. Now of course, that would be the case, only your lighting effects are bad as well. They are way to bright and poppy. Tone it down a notch there. Also, they are too non-natural. They look computer made and tacky. The screentone you have in the 4th screenshot is a blue nightmare. I suggest going to Tind'y mapping tutorial to learn how to make a proper screentone. Also, she has a good mapping tutorial that will do you wonders.

The character graphics are terrible. They look unnatural and weird on some characters. Some of the armor look odd on a character and others look odd in general. Of course, I know whare you made these as well, and that totally seals the point. I hope these are temporary, because they are bad. Also, I think Gaia has a policy as well. Im not going to go into your concept art, but I would rethink your porportions and overall character structures. And the first one is god awful btw. Your banners make no sense in my opinion and they do not match the game at all.

Other: Your thread is unorganized and it hard to read. I suggest looking at other thread and getting an idea about how to make a good looking project thread. Again, some of your features do not seem to fit. Also, work on some of your diolouge, as it sounds tacky and uninteresting. I do like some of your features though. A dynamic enviroment system is a good idea.

Conclusion: Your story in awful and needs to be totally erased and started anew. Going onto different game worlds is a big no-no in my book. Your characters are cliche beyond belief and are uninspiring and unoriginal. Your graphics can be worked on as well. While you have basic mapping skills, you need a lot of refinement overall to make this look good. Also, please work on screentone and fod effects. Some of your features need to be dropped like summoning. I do like the idea of the advanced enviroment system though. Overall though, this game is horrible and is absolutely no where near playable. I do not need to play the demo to figure this out, and I wont either. This game needs a major overhaul or else it is going to fail...miserably.

Read this. Read it all.

First thing I see is the massive 127 mb size. Sure, it's not that big compared to the memory most computers have. But it's huge for an RM game. Why is the filesize so big? I can't comprehend how sound effects would make a game so bulky. People aren't going to be enticed into downloading your game for the sound effects, so you might want to consider carefully going through and removing all the extra sound effects, leaving only the ones that are absolutely necessary.

The whole "percentage completion" thing is pointless. How can you tell when your story is 70% completed, or when your database is 35% done? How do we know how much progress you've made when we have nothing to compare it to as a reference? All I see is a bunch of arbitrary percentages that mean very little. Something that's ten times more meaningful is a "to-do" list. Give us a list of what needs to be done in a game. It doesn't have to be long - just enough so we at least know what more has to be done.

....Somewhere, in a plain between worlds... four dark mysterious figures gather...
Figure1: "The time has come... *laughs*... He He wishes to begin immediately... So lets, shall we?"
Figure2: "As long as he shows up on the death bed of Mother once more for a final show down... I'm willing to start... Humph... I wonder if he'll be surprised to see me living once more...
Figure3: "And you say you can grant unimaginable power correct!? Yesss~~~ as long as I get that power... I'm willing to serve *licks lips*.
Figure4: "...And you're worried about some Shinigami?"
Figure1: "*snickers*... No I'm worried about a Gami Shin Ookami...."
Where to begin. It's like you've taken every single RPG cliche and rolled it up into one big ol' ball of trash. I'm going to ignore the fact that the intro tells me absolutely nothing about the game and assume it's presence in this thread actually has a point.

As barriers between worlds are being torn down, join up with an alliance of good to combat evil. On your way to forming an army from the alliance gain aide from Souls (Summons[KoS], Aeons[Final Fantasy], Summon Jutsu[Naruto]) you take by showing your worthiness. Do you have what it takes to defeat this organization of Dark Dictators from controlling all life?
How is taking characters from three completely different games and forcefully shoving them together in one game a good idea? Listen, it's alright if you fantasize about them in a piece of fanfiction or something. But what could these characters possibly have in common with each other, except for the fact that you like them?

Like bacon said, the plot is extremely simplistic. There's your typical evil bad guys who take on some of the most uninspired forms I've seen. (dark mysterious figures? use your imagination!) And then there's the stereotypical good guys who fight the bad guys. I'll get more into the characters later.

The game is about worlds that are colliding into other worlds. These worlds are the worlds of:
Kingdom of Souls
Final Fantasy (1-10)
Bleach
Naruto
One Piece
D.Gray-Man
Toonami (Tom is a playable ally)
Even More
Oh man. Again, these games have NOTHING to do with each other. Forcing the player to play in worlds from games that have zero connection is going to feel awkward and bizarre. It just shouldn't exist outside of the imagination, y'know?

*Zane Setzune* & ZenUrufu Scarlet
Weapon: ZenUrufu
Element: Darkness
Main Attributes: Strength, Speed
-Works Best with: Xunxen
OverDrive: Gami Shin Zen Ookami (God of Death, Zen Ookami)
Zane: is the holder of Setzune, the Wolf that bares the master Gami Shin ZenOokami and is ruler of soul energy and brute strength. Zane has one of the 12 great bloodline traits, Setzunegami, Eyes of Death which is the Primal Trait, claimed to be either of little use or great danger depending who wields it.
Urufu(wolf): Zane's Kontan Tsurugi(Soul Sword), although a female, she's quite protective of her wielder even when not in weapon form. She was born in a noble family of a Setzune followers(a group apart from the bloodline trait but were protected in the early days by the Clan) and was a prophet as she was gifted with a pink setzunegami, said to be a gift of Amateratsu's dafter.
Oh, cool, miscellaneous Japanese sounding words that sound kind of cool. Here's some advice: They don't. It's practically an insult to the language, and everyone is sick and tired of seeing Japanese used in games.

Your characters as a whole are really flat and uninteresting. None of them seem to have any redeeming qualities or faults. Really good characters have an element of humanity that we as the players can empathize with - I'm not seeing that in your characters. Try and give them three "pros" and three "cons", as a start, to round them out a bit and make them more interesting. And make sure to give them each individual goals - something that they want to accomplish in the game, and by accomplishing it, makes them a better person in some regard.

I really don't know what else to say about this thread. It truly epitomizes everything that's wrong with RPG Maker games. bacon gave you some really good comments about your maps - you should definitely read them.

Listen. I am legitimately trying to help you. Whether you think it's insulting or not doesn't matter, because it's all valid criticism. I'm going to give you my honest opinion. If you truly want to make a good game, a game that others will enjoy playing: start over. Scrap your story, scrap the plot, scrap the characters. Start from scratch. But really consider your game. You have to have a premise that people other than yourself are going to enjoy. A premise people are going to have fun playing. If you want to write a fanfiction, go for it. But don't have it as a game. You have to do some hardcore reflection on the premise of your game. You don't have to make anything really professional, but it has to be something that people will enjoy playing.

I'm going to defend your project the best I can.
I've played your Demo and read through most of the project page.

I read what Dadevster and Bacon wrote. We're all assuming that these worlds are from different animes and videogames. Clearly there's going to be a lot of fan service. A "crossover" is a trope not a cliche like what Bacon said. You usually see crossovers in fighting games, so it's not that bizarre. You should put that in you topic somewhere to explain to people that this is a crossover game. Some might call it a Fangame or FanFiction, most members here arn't going to share your fandom and will only help you in game creation.
You are mixing a lot of anime lingo that isn't going to make sense to most of us unless we've seen or played all of these anime/games. You're going to have to explain a lot if you are using anything specific from a single show/game.

About your Project thread:
There is a lot here, and at the same time there is nothing here.
We don't need to see every character in your game, or their special elemental attributes and weapons. That's something you could put in a text file to go with your game. What we want to see is a brief summary of your game like a plot outline. We don't want to read your cryptic opening scene. Concentrate on who your main character is and how they fit into the story.
Explaining the gameplay is important, and so is telling us what you are trying to achieve. You haven't explained what these systems you are working on do, you've only told use what they are called.
I have no idea where you are going with all this AI talk.

Your Demo:
Yes, the file size is big. Mainly because of the sound effects and music, which we don't even hear in the demo anyways. The demo is mostly rtp music. The opening scene, (the only scene) wasn't very exciting and told us nothing about the story or what this game will be like. Then you are placed in a forest to explore with random ghost encounters that you'll kill in one hit. (btw, pressing "Z" does not continue the text). You'll find a few chests but only get a "not in demo" message. Moving a few maps down you run into a fight with a lot of ghosts, saying something about a girl's soul. Ending the demo in a flowery town with no doors and a few npc that have nothing to say. There was suppose to be something about AI in the town but I saw nothing.
You should hold off on the demo until you've either got your systems working so we can see what the gameplay is actually like. Or until you can show us more of the story.

As one that is usually gungho for crossovers and writes many herself, I was really going to support this project. With a little polish, you could have had everything make sense.

And then I saw the Gaia avatars.

No, bad! *beats!* You do not use Gaia avatars in your games or in your topic, even if they are just temporary placeholders. Not only do they look lame and obvious as to where you got them from, but the Gaia Online website itself is very anal about people using their content for non-Gaia related purposes. Just don't do it.

Also, forgive my Bleach-fagginess, but you better explain why Ulquiorra has GREEN HAIR. >:| It's black. I don't care that it's long, but it's BLACK. >:|

xD thanks a lot guys constructive criticism is one of the best thing i take in.

1. I do apologize for the unupdated--ness of the post, as in the most recent of mine it does state "Cross-over" at the top. And did not know most people at HB has not seen the most basic of animes O_o.

true, the story is a cliche... because its MEANT to be. My 1st project is an attempt at PROGRAMMING SKILLS, not to be an original MASTER PIECE lol. I want to get this done asap with at least SOME kind of fun and funny moments... what calls comedy into games? cliches!

now in retrospect, I probably should of stated that this wasnt a "Serious" project.

=The planned project after this, you may like - deals with conspiracy of the government along with the super natural and clash of religion. I'll be sure to post that here 1st lol.=

as for THIS project tho, one must learn to crawl b4 they can walk, though i have taken all comments which will help strengthen the next project... even though im sure its 90% full proof since i've taken an AP class just for story writing... lol... but any back on topic, i do feel as if you're attempting to chop my legs off b4 i can get from crawling to walking.

an actual real Game Project, would take about 1 -3 years to develop right, in which i will with my custom art as battlers and custom tilesets and sprites... yea, but im getting this done within 6 -9 months <_< so excuse me for not taking the time to fully customize everything aside from my own engine (excluding 4 scripts).

as for my defenders, thank you even more for POLITELY pointing out my weaknesses and also understanding at some extent, where im coming from .

clearing things up about the PRE-demo, the file is large because there are a LOT of extra full length songs... which why you dont hear them is because one is for the OPENING INTRO which isnt finish, and the others are for Character Introduction Scenes...

the reason you dont get much out of the pre-demo is because its to test the mechanics of the game... something that this is stated in the updated post on other sites...

One thing i can say as my 1st time really around HB, you guys go hard, but when it comes to us noobies, you come to hard, and i'll will go Dr. House on your asses. and again, i'll try to remember to update this post as well (not used coming to this site) =3

*I read all of everyone's post, ⌐_⌐ read all of mine - i know at least 2 of you didnt read it all... because you're wondering why the audio is making the file big.
-ZenOokami-

You've got a really good attitude towards criticism, actually, which is great to hear. Thanks for reading over everybody's posts - much of the time people take critique as insults and just leave.

Although,

you really shouldn't set limits for yourself. Unless there's a specific reason you've set a deadline for yourself, if this is your first project, it's probably a good idea to not set any limits on yourself. Let yourself expand, and go nuts with the game. Setting time restrictions is going to hurt your creative liberty.

but i want to let myself go on the next project xD, this one is just basically creating tons of systems =D

like a new i've just started! its basically a battler graphic change dealing with the % of health, but i have to find the right div and ect for the variable that = the max hp lol xD

but hey your idea does give me more insight towards the DLC i plan to make for this project.

Cliche comedy is really hard to pull off and usually comes off as a parody game. I'll be frank, I dont think you have any of the skills to pull it off. I understand that you understand that you cannot maek a great game, but some effort will be nice. You should be working on the story as well to the best of your abilities. Not doing so comes off as lazy and uninspiring. Its up to you whether or not you work on yor story but remember that first impressions do count.

If its not a serious project, then why make it so big. If its not a serious project, then start small. susally a first project should consist of a game between a half an hour and two. Making such a big game without the proper skills is overwhelming. Trust me, I was in the same boat as you at one point. I'm telling you this from experience making such a big project will probably stress you out beyond belief and eventually you will go back at your progress and see that you created absolutely nothing worth mentioning. Then you will go back and fix all the stuff you did and then start building again. Of course, then you will get even better and then go back and fix your past again. It will turn up to be an endless cycle of redoing. Trust me, start small.

First off, let me give you a word of advice. Type out all your words and dont use things like b4 or cuz. Trust me, that is a real turnoff for many members here and some will not even read what you have written. Plus anyways you sound more mature, and that's always a good thing. :3

Your story isnt full proof. Remember, stories are not the same as games. Games require you to adapt a story through action and diolouge. Also, its much harder to pull a cliche off in a game than in a story. And yes, it is my job to try to chop off your legs. Im seeing if you are one of those people who is going to give up and let me chop them off or get up and learn. ;3

I may sound mean and harsh, but I am telling you opinions. I am also not the only one with these opinions. Listen, I can tell you "Hey dude, great game. Hope you suceed," or I can tell you factual opinions. I obviously care enough about your project and about you to type 6 paragraph critique on your project. o:

We come hard because we like to seperate the boys from the men. As long as you learn, then you are fine.

Overall, I am glad that you are taking the time to read everyone's opinions. We sound harsh, but we honestly mean the best for you and have the best intentions. We could of pulled a sentence out like other members do, but we didn't because we do actually care. You do have some good ideas, but you do not of the skill to pull it off. Again, from experience, I understand where you are coming from. But I wasted countless hours on a failed project that did not need to be wasted. One extrememly important piece of advice I have for you is start small.

And thanks for reading what I wrote again. Many don't, and that pisses me off so badly. :D

You've gotta be careful with that man. You keep coming up with more stuff to add to the system, you end up never finishing the game. Trust me on that one. >_>;;;;

Word of advice: finish the systems you NEED for the game to function, and then work on the game itself. Once you finish a good chunk of the game, then you can see what else can and should be tweeked in the system.

eh, i feel everyone's opinion, and hey we all have our choices xD but this is "fun" for me, i'm still undecided whether or not to make it a career... to many things to decide from.

as for the mature thing, maturity is only an image =] i'd rather be a genius and immature than be mature for what people think of me ^^ - im an anti-life philosopher btw, and I do as i please =D.

O_o game is not meant to be finished xD, thats why i plan to have the DLC to keep an addition like feel to it. I'm only focusing on 5 chapters for the original base... lol wow i do suck at project posts xD I only explain the intention of the game and not the project... oh well no use in explaining now xD.

as for the boys from the men, O.o that will forever sound strange...
