Kinda new but mostly old...

Hey everyone.

I'm suprisingly nervous about posting this considering how long I've been away for but hey, what have I got to lose right?

Some of you might remember me, most probably wont. I went under the name of ValentineEnigma and was the creator of such projects as Fear of Life and Kinetic Phase.

After a couple of years of absolute hell I'm now considering getting back into the world of ametuer game design which is a big step considering I've not even looked at a sprite in a very very long time.

I have no idea what kind of project I'm going to be working on as I'm now basically a newb again. Just going to take some time to get to know people and the rpgmaker xp program once again and see what I can come up with.

It's really cool to be back and I hope I don't ask too many annoying questions. If I do, just slap me or something, I don't mind! =]

So yeah, hi all!

Welcome back to the site! When was the last time you were here? Regardless, a lot has changed since the last time you were here! Even in the past couple of months there's been a lot of changes.

Good to see someone coming back instead of leaving :D

2007, was it? Well I was around then, so I guess that explains that I kind of think that I saw your old name somewhere before...

Anyways: Welcome back to our forum. Don't be afraid of asking questions, people here are always willing to help out.
So wich maker are you using then? When you left it was the era of XP, so are you sticking with it, or are you switching to VX? Or could you even be using 2k/2k3?
Anything you are particular good at, when making games?

I hope to see great stuff from you

~Dalton~

I'm probably going to stick to RMXP. I did try out the trial of VX but the issues with tilesets pushed me to my limits. I know how to use RMXP so I'll probably stick with it for now.

Anything I'm good at? I used to be a pretty good spriter but the days have passed I think. My projects were very heavy on event coding to add higher levels of interaction (climbing, jumping etc.) and I guess you could say I had a very keen attention to detail.

I was also pretty good at setting a dramatic scene and atmosphere and would happily spend hours upon hours coding events for intro scenes and flashy effects, fine tuning them til my fingers were ground to sticky stubs!

But yeah, event coding was probably my speciality... but now in the age of scripts such a thing is probably obsolete.

I think I have the Alpha for the last project Kinetic Phase somewhere should anyone be interested in seeing it. It's stupidly short though... perhaps I should beef it up a bit first. Would be good practice I suppose.

Thanks for the welcome Dalton. =]

A legend!

Hey what you did with rmxp pretty much set the bench mark for what could be done, shame they never got that far. Personally I preferred the feel of Fear of Life, I played that before I ever had anything and inspired to aim for similar levels of interaction. I just jumped back on the horse a few days ago after over a year out so I know it's weird at first... let's hope it's like riding a bike.

I think the rm scene needs something fresh to invigorate it so good timing.

Haha! Wow. Don't know how I feel about being called a legend but thanks.

I'm glad there's still someone around who remembers FoL.

I'm hoping it'll be easy to get back into, and that I'll have the time to dedicate to whatever I choose to do.

FoL was, is and will always be my baby. It's a project that's stayed with me all this time and I've actually just last month finished up a new draft of Morgan's story so who knows... if I can get the tilesets it may just be back in business... but hey, too early to tell yet. =]

I'm English, we call people who manage find a kebab shop whilst we're all intoxicated legends!

Solid Event coding is by no means obsolete in my opinion, for the majority that ability is what sets apart a polished GAME from something that's just made in rpg maker and skill that's hard to come by. Timing, consistency etc makes a huge impact from my perspective and you had that down pretty good IIRC.

Spriting and event coding is it?

With the second one of those being my speciality as well, and the first one being something I never got the hang of, I think I that those abilities are great.

Also you are a fellow XP user, so we have something in common there, too.

And since you are british and I am german, we are both from europe.

I would gladly play your games, if you decided to reupload them. You look like a great fellow.
