Kate's HKCP Stuff

Let it be known I hate naming topics.  :dead:

I also hate writing intro spiels for topics because I invariably say something stupid so I'm just gonna cut to the chase.  Though perhaps to eliminate confusion, my name is Kate, I kinda prefer it to my ever-so-slightly outdated username.

Yeah, so there's not nearly enough crap here to warrent a spoiler yet but what the hell, I don't use them enough for the novelty to wear off

Please ignore the shoes for the minute, they are ugly and being redone :D I have more colours + the palettes for these... somewhere. I'll post them when I find them :D

I'm not entirely sure just how useful a sari will be in the grand scheme of things, but what the hell, it's fun pixelling it :D

But much more useful, jeans and bootsfor the guys. I'm gonna do a couple more recolours and then a few 'distressed' versions. (on template B) And please, no comments on the cancer patients doing the Full Monty  There's going to be a t-shirt and a leather jacket over the top.

Awesome Bro

I'm not much of a HK person, but I think you've done quite a good job here, I have a few ideas for you though.

For the red, make it shorter, about to the waste, and then draw like some black skinny jeans/trousers to match, and the same with the pink one except white instead, Then you'll have a nice modern looking set to just copy and paste over.

Nice work overall.

Oooh, I like them! More please!

The only thing that stood out to me was the outline on the necklace. It looks fine on the red, but on the other it looks a bit harsh. It might just be me, but maybe something to think about.

Are you going to submit these to the HKCP? (I'm preparing to snag them for myself, if you do...)  :thumb:

At least those poor cancer patient girls have nice dresses... ;)  I agree with the above that you should soften the color of the lighter necklace, somewhere about half between what you have on the top three rows and what you have on the bottom row.  You should also change the one on the dark dress slightly, right now it matches the straps of the dress which makes the side views a little muddled.  The buttons on the back of the dark dress are very bright also, not necessarily a problem if you want them to appear white.  They look good though overall, the shading is great and in my imagination at least it animates cleanly, but if you could post an in-motion version that would be awesome.

Nice! I especially love the sideviews. Don't forget to add skin, shading, though--under the straps in the dress, especially. Use the Pale Skin Palette for that.

Aside from what the others have mentioned, I have a little critique. On the side-view her breasts look bigger than they do on the front-view. I think this is due to the fact that her waistband-part is sloped upward instead of downward, which puts the HK at an odd angle. The perspective is looking down at them at about a 60 degree angle, so you'll want to keep the pattern of a down-slope on nearly everything. Like on the backview, that's a perfect angle.

Also I think there are too many light colors on the gold sash-version and not enough dark colors.

Keep it up :thumb:

(Forgive the fact it's kinda fast, I hate using Image Ready to animate and I haven't quite figured out how to do it in Gale)

This better? I'll whack up the pink one tomorrow, is horribly late and I have class tomorrow

Nphyx -  I'm working on hair :P I just apparently work in a different order to everyone else, I like to have the clothes completely finalised before I start on hair :P I'm also not sure on the buttons, I thought they were a bit too bright, but I kinda like them like that now.

Ven - how's it now? I'm not entirely sure on the skin shading though :/ Also with the gold sash, is it that there's too many lights and not enough darks, or is it that the darks are too light?

Britchik - yep, bound for the HKCP soon as they look good enough so take 'em and run :D

You have to have the full version of Gale to save as an animated gif, other than that I just wrote a tutorial on it that should tell you everything you need to know about animating your sprite sheets, it's over in the ... Tutorial forum!  And it's okay, we'll just imagine what your sprites looked like before they got chemotherapy :D

Is it worth grabbing a copy of the full version? If it is I'll see if I can scrape up the cash over the next week or so while the exchange rate is still good.

Anyway, updated with a few more bald WIPs. They're only the first frame I'm afraid, but I'll hopefully have them done over the next few days.

The only new features you get with the full version are the ability to save gifs - including animated ones - and Windows cursor and icon files, which you can't put into a free program technically anyway due to licensing fees.  For me the extra 18 bucks wasn't a big deal, not that I'm just gushing with cash or anything (quite the opposite in fact :/) but I generally believe in spending a little money here and there to support a good product.

Anyway Gale is great whether or not you can save the gifs but if being able to save them is important for you then definitely 18 bucks is, what, like 4 trips to Starbucks or whatever your favorite luxury might be. :)

On the skin shading, you would be adding mid-dark shades from the Pale palette around the areas that'd need it on the torso. Specifically, the back of the bodice, and around the straps. Shadows, as if the clothes were on the skin. That's to make it look like everything blends together nicely, like the outfit was actually designed for the character.

For the sash, yeah, it's just missing dark shades. The color is fine, there're just too many tones (lights) and not enough shades (darks) .

You have most of it already, but I wouldn't mind some shading at the back and some darker tones in a few places :thumb:.

Also, I L-O-V-E the Sari! I was actually going to make one myself, so don't worry, they're important!! Love the pants, too :D

You rock

Small update - tweaked the original dress a little and added the finished first frame of the sari - question: does it look better with or without the decorations?

-Loving- the sari. Viva multi-cultural rpgs!! I'd love to see both finished, the more variety the better if you ask me. And I would definitely be interested in using it, I was hoping to do some Indian-themed dungeons and a town for the adventure game, I mean c'mon, any Indiana Jones style story needs a trip to India!! So far the pixeling on the two looks spot-on to me.

Oh, wow... I LOVE the sari. Now I've got to diversify from European clothing myself...

What is there more to say? I absolutely wuv the sari? God, I don't think it's necessary...

Not much of an update/reply, but I've been sick for a couple of weeks and haven't really been that inclined to do any pixel work...

Finished the front frames of the sari and started on the side...why I chose to do somthing asymetrical I don't know...and I can already tell that the over-the-shoulder bit of fabric is going to be a right pain in the arse...

http://www.maj.com/gallery/Tonks/HKCP/01._fsari.png[/img]

I'm not sure about the top bit on the first side frame...looks more like velvet to me then sari fabric (which pisses me off because I can never ever get things looking like velvet when I want them to ><)

Moar boots...on a bald and otherwise unclothed guy. :dead:

He will however eventually be fully dressed...I'm going to add a leather jacket to the mix too, but I'm not entirely sure how to go about the shadows as it's a seperate item. Would I put the shadows under the open bit as though he was wearing *that* particular shirt or just leave it unshaded and leave it up to the user to shade it themselves according to what the sprite has on underneath?

I like how the sari is going.

As to the leather jacket - there are two methods you could use.
The first would be to have it seperate, but with no shadows coming off of it.
Alternatively, you could take an existing shirt, put it underneath and shade that, then have them together as one thing.
Just my two cents.

I love the sari. (Just thought I'd jump on the bandwagon with that one.) The only thing that doesn't look right to me is on the side frames, it looks too low cut. If you make the line around the neck less steep and bring the lower end up a few pixels, that would help.

The boots are looking good, and I wish I could shade jeans so well. I second what gratheo says on the leather jacket, though I personally am on the side of letting the user shade underneath for different clothing.
