Japan quakes.

Well, the whole world just chatters and chatters about the
big quake in Japan. But somehow i don't find one in HB.

Press portals are flooding with articles about quake.
and also I got to see lot of posts related to it.

Currently some koreans think japan deserves to suffer this disaster since they killed and do really a lot of bad things to their ancestors,
and some japanese people think that koreans are crazy since they feel somewhat 'Schadenfreude' against innocent people.

I wonder what you western guys think?
Save them or let them die?

Well, some Americans think Japanese deserved this because of what happened in Pearl Harbor, sixty years ago. I think it's crazy complaining about something that happened when you weren't even born.

Wow, that just seems more asshole-y every day. They're complaining about crap they have no right to. Every country's done bad things, people just like blaming people, like Haiti and the guy saying Haiti deserved it cause of some Devil pact. A country is simply that, collective territory of people. You're not really defined as Japanese, except it's like a large and exclusive group that you're born into. Japan's done its fair share of shit, like Nanking and pearl harbor, but America's got shit as well, Korea (at least north, not too sure about south korea sins) has shit wrong with it, and everyone's just human. Condemning them is basically condemning them to die and saying that you're better and you deserve to live. :\

Otherwise, it's quite a shame. Something of that magnitude happens only roughly every couple of years, 20 i believe, so It's a shame that that happened. I heard on the radio, but the japanese stock market plummetted like billions of dollars I think (I might be wrong, the radio was a bit.... static-y). I've got like 2 people I know in japan, and while they weren't actually affected immediately (besides the electricity and etc.), they had a whole bunch of relatives that were really badly hurt.

Anyways, this earthquake's the 5th largest since earthquakes. started being recorded, and it's a shame it happened.

DJ: you have any stories about its affects on Korea?

Sure. because of japan quake, Korea also had a small quake
in Incheon. But it's magnitude was just about 3.2,
Which means normal people even rarely feel it.

And you know, Japan's Fukushima Atomic Plant is on crisis
status. two of reactor has exploded0, and one of them
are about to meltdown. several people who lives around there,
and who works in plant were exposed to radiation.

The people who live 20Km diameter around Fukushima Plant
already evacuated to safe area, but radiation is still spreading.

Also this makes worry in Korea since it could be possible for
radiation to spread in Korea, but possibility is really low
since the wind is blowing to East, which will spread radiation
to Pacific Sea, Western side of U.S and Canada, and Mexico.

The biggest concern about japanese quake is that Korean people
who is in Japan. Korean Government said that currently most of them
lost contact. Some of people returned to korea or evacuated to safe location, but still concern is increasing for people with lost contact.

Lee Myung Bak, President of South Korea decided to send about 110 rescue crews. 5 of crews are already in Japan, and 100 additional crews will arrive in Japan soon.

Heh, that's what i call 'Useless Patriotism'.
Maybe they think that Japanese are all bad guys who would invade other country and slaughter. But actually people say that most of japanese people are very kind and good, Contrary to what we knows.

It's only a minority of (dumb) people who say it's their punishment for pearl harbor. Those people have twisted values and i actually feel sad for them. If the quake/tsunami is a punishment for pearl harbor than i i'd escape the USA asap because the punishment for the 2 atomic boms will be much bigger (this is meant sarcastic of course)

I'm also worried about the radation issue. Let's hope it does not escalate any further.

And lastly, i though Japan and South Korea where really close allies? :p

You know bro,
japan_farts.PNG

Japan farts radiation.
If the wind does not change, it will affect north america next wednesday.

If the atmosphere changes, the radiation even can spread to Korea or China
via rain, or change of wind direction.

And... the radiation amount is about 365 times stronger than natural radiation.
It could be very dangerous!

This map is fake. I don't know who made it but whoever did slapped on the Australian Radiation Services logo on it. It's a hoax, you don't have to worry :p

:!: :!: :!: ANYBODY WHO IS CONCERNED ABOUT FUKUSHIMA/RADIATION, PLEASE CHECK OUT THIS THREAD :!: :!: :!:

There is a TON of misinformation and paranoia circulating around about the situation with these nuclear power plants. You can't rely on one single source of information, be it websites, cable news or what people are saying on Facebook. Use your critical judgment and get your info from reliable sources.

Basically, yes, the situation is bad and potentially disastrous, so you have the right to be worried. But this will not result in a new Chernobyl, a nuclear explosion is physically impossible in a power plant, and a meltdown does not automatically signify disaster. Check out that thread I linked, it's explaining things far more eloquently than I.

lol what I havent heard anyone say or think this ;[

The people that are saying that the Japanese deserve to suffer for Pearl Harbour/dolphins/squinty eyes are total assholes, plain and simple. They're looking for justification for this disaster and to make themselves seem superior for some odd reason. There's really no reason behind it other than blind patriotism or incredulous ignorance. Ignore them and move on.

The ongoing quakes in Japan are devastating. Their deadliest earthquake since the Kanto earthquake of 1923, I think, and certainly their strongest. I've been following the situation there very closely - I watched live footage of the tsunami as it ravaged the northeast coast.

Nobody deserves to suffer through a disaster like this. Why do people insist on bringing up prior history and trying to make an excuse for lacking to offer their assistance? Why can't we leave out the politics for one goddamn week and focus on the search-and-rescue? Thousands are without food and water and yet all we can do is flip out over a nuclear power plant. uhghhh

The situation is bad. It's awful, and I can't even come close to imagining how horrible it must be to live in one of the affected regions right now. This is the worst earthquake since the Haiti quake of last year. (only one year ago? christtt) There's just so much going on all at once here that the only thing we can really do is donate to a reliable charity. Japan may be one of the largest economies in the world but they're still in massive need of donations and money, despite what people may think.

don't go on openbook and type in 'pearl harbor' then, it's really not so heartwarming :(

uZbK6.jpg

but this is really the least of japan's problems. i'm pretty darn sure these are just a vocal minority who would be total dicks anyway.

btw: not just americans either. it's easy to throw all the weight of the world's ignorance on the states but everybody is pretty guilty of this.

"And then I googled pearl harbour death toll"

Pearl harbour: 2,402
Hiroshima: 90,000–166,000
Nagasaki: 60,000-80,000
Japanquakes: was that 10k just a projection?

yeah this is why I get so upset at people, the death ratios differ so much but LOL ITS ALL ABOUT AMERICA, BROS

give uncle sam a big sloppy salute with yo' mouf's

To be fair, the Pearl Harbor thing is a part of how our education system skews what it teaches. Similar to how the Japanese education system generally ends up teaching that Japan was forced into bombing pearl harbor because the US forced through economic sanctions that were causing Japan's economy to fail at the time.

That being said, this could easily be turned into a good thing. (With a bad taste, admittedly) Japan's economy has been on a downward spiral for nearly two decades now, and the rebuilding and international aid brought on by this earthquake and tsunami could easily be the stimulus it needs to effectively "reboot" their economy and get moving back in the direction they want to. That being said, many lives were lost, and I understand the considerable problems that is causing right now.

first off I dont think japan's economy needs any huge help (speaking prior to this incident) since they're like third in the highest economies in the world. also, its not fair at all; the point is that americans once again show their arrogance. Pearl Harbor was almost 70 yrs ago, and the generations that it appealed to are either long gone or close to it. The people commenting on this are a childish demographic, which is why I find all of this so frustrating.

not to mention the firebombings during WWII, which are highly underplayed in history (Tokyo alone suffered around 100,000 deaths?).

It's truly sad how this causes so much ignorance. I for one am lucky to experience an unbiased view of history; but I understand some people are just indoctrinated with the mindset that enemies are enemies. Much like most would call any Nazi or communist bad, regardless of their involvement in a war decades past, just because of our intensely narrow patriotic view of the world.

We're generally taught here that the Allies were the good guys and the Axis were the bad guys (and such for WWI - Allies vs Central Powers), completely binary black and white. (To be honest we never really covered Japan, that was seen more as America's war I guess). In war there are no good guys (as pretentious as that sounds). Just look at Iraq - the only death toll we're ever given is American troops killed.
