Items and Event Triggering

Hello everyone! I have only recently started using this version (XP) after spending many years using RPG Maker for PS1. I'm so happy to have made my way to this wonderful resource. Lot's of great info here, I appreciate it.

I have read here for the past day and learned a ton already, but I'm either having a dumb moment or the game isn't set up for this particular purpose (I strongly sense that it's the former). I want an item in the inventory to directly trigger an event by selecting it in the inventory. My closest approximation is to use 'conditional branch' appropriately... but that's not really what I'm after. How can I accomplish this task?

Welcome to rmxp.org.

As with many questions, there are multiple ways to accomplish this.

It would more helpful narrowing down the appropriate way(s) if you described what you want to do in detail.

The most common way is...

If you look at your item in the database, You'll notice a field for "Common Event"
You can create a common event to perform your function, then select the common event for that item.
The common event will execute AFTER the parameters & states have been processed for the item.

Now, you can use the common event to do a multitude of functions, from detailed customized menu, map,
crafting systems, to simply setting a switch so on-map events can be triggered.

Be Well
