Is Vista really worth it?

I don't actually own Vista, but I have to use it pretty much everywhere I got (like school 0_o), and I have to say - I like it.

Hasn't given me any trouble since I got used to it. I mean, at first I was frustrated to no end because I didn't know how to do any of the things I'm so used to doing, and had to relearn a lot of things, but that's not really a negative.

I've been using vista, and it has no compatibility. RMXP works, and other games and tools, but hardware connectivity tools don't work, and the ammount of times vista has start up problems is ridiculous.
Get xp. If you want the vista gui then look for the transformation pack. The xp gui is ugly, though media centre looks decent with it's royale theme.
EDIT: Compatibility mode doesn't work some of the time, so far the updates haven't solved any of the major issues, it just updates some microsoft licence file somewhere, like the xp updates that have been recently released.
Wait for Vista SP1

Nice for the big sweeping statements skip. I've noticed that ever since the first thread was made on Vista, you've been bitching. Fact is most of these are junk. "no compatibility"? I'm yet to get a legitimate app that doesn't run it, or at least doesn't have a patch to run on Vista. If you're downloading stuff called 123adremover then obviously they aren't going to work. I have no idea where you got this license file idea from- yes there was a single update for that- it was about 6kb. Care to explain the other 200+mb of updates I've downloaded?

been a beta tester since Beta 2 found no problem whatsoever. If i did i wouldnt be trying to clean my hd about now to install ultimate

Well I got a chance to mess around with it at someone else's house, and in the good news, it didn't explode in the 20 minutes I was using it and nothing really went catastrophically wrong. In the bad news, it couldn't connect to their wireless network for literally no reason I could find. I made sure their password was correct, the security settings were identical, and every time Vista would just pop up this nice little screen of 'cannot connect: unknown reason'.

So hey it works at least right?

I've actually gotten my new computer today. Thanks for all the help. Vista looks great and I haven't run into any problems. I'm trying to get use to everything, as it seems everything is out of place but I've got to say it's much easier to use. Thanks again!

I don't necessarily like Vista..but I will defend it..I have a new computer with Vista on it..been abour 4months now..and I have not had 1 problem or crash..so not sure what everyone is talking about..
The only issues I had were with software that didn't quite work with it..but I was able to download new versions or updates for all of them with no problems...so..*shrug*

x64's problems have zero to do with vista, and everything to do with lack of driver support for it, just so that's clear.

But yeah, x86 is the way to go right now.

the only real problem I have with Vista is the stupid issue of telling it yes, continue 2-5 times for EVERY administrative command, it's like a small child asking, "Do you wanna do this?" "Yes" "Are you sure?" "Yes" "Are you really sure?" "YES" "Really, really sure?" "YES!!!!!!" "Are you 100% su-" "YES!!! GOD-F*C*I*G-DAMMIT!!!!!!!"

in either run or search box : msconfig
then tools tab Disable UAC

or alternativly
C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /k %windir%\System32\reg.exe ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v EnableLUA /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

no, do get vista, just get the 32-bit edition as opposed to 64, I mean the only game I've found that doesn't run on there is Resident Evil 4, but even as I speak capcom are fixing that.
