Well, Super Tails was sort of lame... Hyper Knuckles, I miss, however. Also, I miss being able to play as Super Sonic whenever I collected 100 rings, instead of this OMG END OF THE WORLD SUPAH SONIC GOOO crap. Ah, well.
I completely agree TBM. It was awesome in Sonic 2 when Super Sonic first appeared and pretty much owned everything on screen. It's getting really really cliche having the last fight in the game have a super appear (Sonic, Shadow, or even "Blaze" I've heard)... I'm expecting the end of every new Sonic game to have some super form of a main hero fighting some doomsday enemy.
I haven't liked too many newer Sonic games very much.... I've played all the
3d ones (cept' for Sonic Riders... >.>... pure freakin crap man...) and the only one I "enjoyed" was the orginal Sonic Adventure. It was and still is the only 3D Sonic game so far that had a bit of that old school feel. (I mean when Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles jumped, they rolled into a ball and made that weird high pitched sound... and Tails could fly/hover... TAILS COULD FLY/HOVER!) Lately most of the newer Sonic games tend to forget the little things like that. Also Tails could be played as and had a much bigger role (if you haven't noticed I'm a big Tails fan) as did Knuckles. In a lot of the newer Sonic games both of them are usually just support characters, or their skills are greatly handicapped.
I don't mind some of the new characters (cept' Big.... KILL BIG. Fortheluva...) A part of me kinda' likes Shadow... but Sega adding yet ANOTHER hedgehog... whats his name Silver? That's waaay to much now (what is it now? 4 hedgehogs?!) They expand the SOnic universe, but I do see how Sega's just trying too hard.
I've also played some of the newer 2D Sonic games. They were "okay" in my opinion.... the only one that really stands out to me was Sonic Advance 3. The partner system there was very interesting.
I really hope Sega will realize what they're slowly doing to the Sonic franchise; killing it. Why is Mario still a gaming favorite? Because Nintendo doesn't drown the gamer with a million new characters (there are some, but it doesn't drag down gameplay), they don't try something to completely revamp how the franchise is played (maybe innovate it, but never completely revamp) and in general they stay true to the roots of their franchise.
