Is my PS2 offically dead?

Um....I don't see how a PSX emulator can play Xenosaga 1....a PS2 game. Anyways, I just got off the phone with Sony, and they say they can refurbish it for 45 bucks. Considering that's half the price of a USED, "fat" PS2, I think it's a good deal.

I'd take it.

Well, I mean, my PS3 upscales PS2 games, so my PS2 just got put away yesterday, but yeah.

(Is the one you have slim or not? I paid $100 on ebay for a new Slim PS2 with Ratchet & Clank 1 and 2. Pretty good deal if you ask me. Just a thought.)

I have a fat version and it still works fine but, this thread makes me chill and fear that my ps2 is gonna croak soon....
I'll just be optimistic (yeah right, my hands are sweating ahehe.)

I wouldnt fear. Look at me. I bought my PS2 the day it FIRST came out. I still have it. And it really has no problems at all. It works perfectly fine and I have played countless hours on it (not including the fact my parents and sister also have been using it for years).

I had good luck with mine! How many years has it been anyways... ah, so many memories with this thing...

Chances are that if it cant read the disk, and the disk has no physical damage like scratches, then there may be another problem with the disk and not the system degrading. I have an old Sega Genesis and it still works great. The problem with disks not being scratched and still not readable may be due to something high in the sky. Ever heard of warping? Well if a disk is heated up and cooled down or is left in the sun too long, the disk actually loses the grooves it got imprinted with and any data in it. It can easily happen to any disk, old or new.

Pretty lucky there, I got one about a week after it came out, and the it died on me within a year. I mean, I didn't have much problem with that, since Sony pretty much charged us for shipping the thing to them, took a couple weeks to fix it and sent it back, but that's still an annoying inconvenience. (also the day after we got it back my house got robbed and it got stolen anyways [along with other things...], so I'd almost wish they'd have taken just a few days longer)
