Is Eternal Sonata any good ?

Jason

Awesome Bro

Hi,

Just as a note; I finally got Valkyria Chronicles (Made a thread about it) for £35 brand new, yay me ! (Awesome game !)

And now I'm looking at Eternal Sonata, it's being rereleased on the PS3 next friday (In the UK)(Holy hell, Friday 13th !), and it's got new characters, and other extras added on from the original, and I've been looking at a few gameplay video's and reading up on the storyline, which doesn't seem half bad, but I want to know, from your experience, how is it ? Cause I'm wanting to get it, but if it's a load of toss, it's a waste of cash, lol.

Another reason is that it's made by Namco (Bandai), I mean, the Soul Calibur games are amazing (Except for 4, that seems so rushed and lacks so much), the Tekken games were always fun, but they were the type of game you get bored of easy, the Ridge Racer games aren't TOO bad, although I think they're more noted for them, but I don't think Namco has ever made an RPG, so I'm kinda debating, since it's their first RPG, will it be as up to scratch as the RPG's made by developers who have experience with the genre of games, such as Square.

Long story short, is Eternal Sonata any good ?

Thanks.

In terms of unique gameplay...a little. The battle system is fun and intuitive and adds a bit of variety to the standard random battle system. The story is also a nice feature but it's a bit to cutesy and J-RPG for my fancies. I played a bout 5 hours into it and got bored. It ultimately depends whether you're in to the J-RPG scene, and if you can stand some of the quirky story things and rather shitty character development.

people like to call it eternal cutscene. theres like endless amounts of them. good if you like those. bad if you dont

Oh come on, this game in no way beats Xenosaga or Metal Gear Anything in terms of cutscene lengths.

But on topic! If you like traditional console RPGs or even classical music you'll love this. It's got lovable characters, a good, if a bit odd, storyline, and probably the most interesting battle system I've seen in a console RPG in a very long time.

Like someone above said, there is a demo so I'd give that a shot. Be warned though, the game starts out kind of slow.

Game does start out kinda slow but you're (in the begining) a chick that can do magic (bad for some reason) and you're going to die because of this... you pick up multiple characters for your party (like 20) but you can only use 3 or 4 don't remeber
Fun game my sister played it to the end, i'd watch. somewhat interesting but really slow to begin and once it's moving it's hard to put down.
Also during combat you have special attacks, these change depending on whether you are in the dark or light ( like if you're in a shadow it's one thing if not it's another) antoher interesting lil thing
