asberger's syndrome is a frivolous, made-up thing IMHO. a fancy name for "smart fella who is pretty introverted".

treatment? how do you get someone who hates people to like them? i know nothing'll make ME like anyone better, label or none.

It isn't frivolous, or made up. Chances are, it's a bunch of different things rolled up into one package name, because of their relative similarities. And, just because someone has Asperger's, it doesn't automatically follow that they are a social retard. Plenty of people who have been diagnosed with the syndrome get along fine in the real world, without other people having more than a stray thought or two about the person being a bit odd.

I KNOW it's a "legitimate" mental condition, recognized by psychiatrists.

I was saying, IN MY HONEST OPINION, it's bollocks. I think it's a pointless label.

If someone is autistic then call them autistic.
If someone is dissociative, then call them dissociative.
If someone is introverted, then call them antisocial or use therapy for social anxiety disorders.

It is a trend for some people to grow up being uncommunicative, yet perfectly fine in all other matters. It is a personality trait, or somewhat negative quirk. It does not need a label. And labelling it has only yielded stupid results: it's thrown around in a trendy fashion almost as much as depression.

If someone has a spectral autistic disorder then they need to be treated on the basis of the spectrum of their problems/symptoms/liabilities. Using a catch-all like Asberger's is just giving people a meaningless label to slap onto kids who need more specialized counseling.

Yes, I am incredibly skeptical to most of the psychological science as a whole; it's not that people aren't in need of psych evaluation, it's that the practice of it has become so murky and unwieldy and unchecked, that it has set back the science significantly.
