Introductory Thread -waves-

Hello HBGames community,

Firstly, my name is Hannah and I'm 23 currently living in the U.K. I've been relatively nervous about joining, but I love reading this forum. I thought introducing myself might help me make some interesting friends, critique work and share resources. I had a little gander at the introductory rules, also briefly read a few other 'hello' threads and I'll follow it to the best I can!

What is your history with game creation and the game making community?

I'm a fairly timid person, not very good at internet socialising however hard I try, but I would like some friends that can put up with some weirdness.

What is your field of expertise in game making?

I've been designing games for over a decade, going through different platforms (Starting with QBasic, Flash, RM series and ending up with Unreal as of current). But my field of expertise would have to be storyline/character development. I adore stories with a thousand stories inside.

How did you find the forums?

Just browsing, and wanting to get back into designing games on an RM program. I remember that this website changed its name quite a bit years ago but that's all I can recall.

What you hope to get out of the forum?

I hope to receive and dish out respectable criticism on designs, artwork, music etc. I also hope to set up my own Gameover/Title screen thread and make a few friends there.

What kind of creative talents do you have (outside of game creation)?

Fairly professional standard of Adobe software (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash), used to dabble a lot in programming languages, mostly C++ and PHP but that was a while ago now.

What are your hobbies or interests?

All aspects of designing games, but not really much of a player of games. I prefer watching other people play and I just take mental notes on what people dislike or enjoy.

What kind of music do you listen to?

Mostly all genres, but I am very picky and it depends on my mood. Most of the time.. alternative rock. Right now I've got the Samurai Champloo album on, rocking it.

What level of education are you in? What are you studying in college?

Currently a production design student at University, not particularly loving it.

Feel free to get in contact with me on MSN: hwilliams_89@hotmail.com

Thanks for reading!

Hi, saeldur! Welcome to the forum. Don't be too shy, we won't bite :]

You sound like our ideal member here. Be sure to share all your art with us too! :D

Thanks everyone, such quick responses!

@Venetia: Such a beautiful avatar, I adore pixel art but I just cannot seem to get my head around anti-aliasing. I don't suppose you do requests?

@Pipesnogger: No problem with that, I love giving people help and advice when they need it. This community seems ideal!

@AllTheBrits: Good to see lots of British people! We should all gather together to design an urban game based around London or something, that would be fantastic!

A British! I love them and their dark sense of humour, even though I don't understand half of it at times unless it's made really obvious.

A fellow female member too! We can always have more of those. Looking forward to see more of your posts!

I'm mostly doing the textual stuff (writing) at the moment to help with Strawberry's Ghost Shards RPG. I have a game project started as the last Construct 2 contest's entry, Crypt of Vidae, but I bailed the contest just before it ends and now I'm replanning the game without the restriction of a deadline. Although that also means it won't see much update for a while ;_;

How about you?

Ghost Shards project looks fantastic right now, same with your Crypt of Vidae! I wanted to join the C2 contest but University coursework is due throughout this month and it is a little hectic. I am currently trying to create a game but I really struggle with ideas at the beginning, I have a rough idea but no real plot device. I'm also playing with Inq's amazing tilesets but the passabilities on the tiles are all messed up and I need to fix that. I have created a world map which I would love some critique on:

Is there any character template that would be nicely with Inq's tilesets at all? I know the current RTP ones do a fairly good job but I was hoping for.. more.

Haha, I googled Inq's tilesets and this map pops up in the search result.

If what I was looking at are correct, it seems RMXP RTP templates will do just fine. Others may have a more experienced opinion though.

the tilesets have the height for RTP characters, but don't match that well with the RTP - only certain tiles do

i once tried doing stuff with it

also i found this, another abandoned project of mine:

oh nostalgia

Those are beautiful Tomas, I don't suppose you have a completed passability of Inq's tilesets? I do have some, but the interior tileset isn't working at all.

Alas, the avatar wasn't one I made, it was something I found on PixelJoint ;o
I used to do a lot of pixel art myself, but entirely lost time for it. Now my life is work, work, work, with a few respites at this forum :)

Awesome Bro

Welcome to the family! C++ is a terrible language by the way. :barf:

You'll fit in here just fine, just post a lot and hang out on #hbgames and you'll get to know the community pretty quickly. I look forward to seeing some of your work!
