Post something you've done today game-making wise, and I'll buy the best one a HBGames sponsorship. Gogogo, no special rules, ends on Friday night I guess!

Oh right. XD

I wonder though - does it have to be today? I've done tons of things game-making wise lately, just not today. I also have no more visuals to do for my game except portraits, which I'm waiting on help for. XD

Anything you are currently working on but have put some work in yesterday, today or tomorrow. Sorry I'm being a bit vague. I just wanted to sponsor the site but wanted to be useful with it too.

Come on guys, someone must have worked on something today. Anything.

Don't make me choose just between Strawberrii and a newperson :eek:uch:

I'll go ahead and post some stuff. It's a mix of 2 projects i've been working on.

First on an independent project

This is from a game I'm working on with a couple of other people

(Yes that is my hand. I did it during college.)
This is the element tree from the game I want to make. (Don't question my reasoning...)
Outside:
Fire > Wind > Sol > Luna > Water > fire
Star inside:
Fire > Luna > Wind > Water > Sol > Fire
In the middle (although you can't see it)
Atos > everying
(Atos can only be created when all the elements are combined, and that is a hard process.)

This is a potential bad guy.
He is deluded by the power of Atos and wants to use it to bring "judgement" on all the creatures of earth.

I just spent two hours working on an evented door for this, then realized that I have to leave for work. (And yes, I realize that a scripted version is the obvious way for me to go, which is why I'm making the evented one. I made this thing from scratch, despite having something very similar in the past.)

I think these kinds of thing hinder productivity.
Intrinsic motivation Vs. Extrinsic motivation.

Intrinsic: interest the task itself, self improvement ect...
Extrinsic: In it for the rewards.

Experiments show that people reach goals faster when motivated intrinsically than the people who are offered a reward. I think because the extrinsic group are focused on the outcome and maybe the time limit, basically over analyzing the situation. You can't really fail with intrinsic motivations. But I think after failing to reach extrinsic rewards, you become less and less motivated to do the task just by association.
I was going to work on something today anyways. But now, I feel like I should make it a goal to post something here which would require some time management and preparation which would just distract from whatever it is I would be working on.

Sometimes I think the forum itself is a distraction because you feel obligated to prove your working on something. Or whenever there's a contest, I'll just stop working on the game I was doing for fun because developing a game for a prize sounds much more fruitful.

However coyote, if you notice, most people who entered were not thinking about this contest at the time. I know I wasn't doing those doodles to try and win this...
It's more of a "show me what you've done." thing. Like when a teacher walks over to you in class and notices you've done some work. and when that work is awesome and amazing, the teacher gives you a merit (I hope you guys had merits)

Edit: Glitch was the only person who made something specifically for this.

I was just giving some money to the site and thought it would be nice to make someone a sponsor along the way. If that's upset your own development I'm sorry.

While you bring up a good point @coyote, I'm believe the effect is negligible if it's done infrequently. Plus, competitions like this are a good way to spur social change, like making more games, if it results in something that makes you intrinsically motivated (winning a competition and suddenly realizing you have a passion for pixel art, etc). Full disclosure, I like competitions so I'm probably biased.

@Hiccup, did you happen to be inspired by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wu_Xing? I tried to create a battle system around that but never quite finished it.
