Import Games

So, my parents are actually considering letting me import a video game off of Play Asia (LINK)... I immediately thought, "W00T! TALES OF INNOCENCE!"

But... The question on my mind is... Should I bother with it, or find a different game...?

Chimmy Sez:

Here's your place to discuss imports of any sort. Only non-English games need apply! I'm making one thread for this because, as a rule, games you import from Japan are going to be more obscure in the Western world, and as such might not warrant their own individual topic. Topics on individual imports might be merged into this one, depending on the level of content and how well-known it is Westside.

Alright, go nuts.

Well, Tales of games aren't very import friendly. You'll need at least a basic understanding of Japanese (Or a translation guide, which, honestly, is more pain than it's worth) to play it. That said, Tales of Innocence is great, second to none only to The World Ends With You. However, if you're looking for a drastic change from the other games, excluding Tempest, then look for another game, because you won't like this one.

Also, slow down on the topics scooter.

If you want to play another generic Namco game without the ability to read the generic dialog being spewed forth from the generic anime characters then go ahead and waste your parents money, dude.

@ kitty: Thanks for the adivce, I have a big understanding of japanese, and have loved every other one, I've just heard mixed messages about this game.

And, sorry...  ^^"

@Marcus: Haha, I know your trying to help, but I happen to adore those generic anime characters lol ^^

This thread is pretty awful. I'm not sure if it really warrants its own topic -- this is the sort of thing you could ask if you went on IRC.

Although, maybe... Could I have your permission to turn this into a discussion thread for import games? I'm not sure how much use it would get, but at least it'd be useful-ish.

OMG YES PLEASE! ^^"

I've decided to buy it anyways, and not only that, I don't wanna edit another topic ehehe...

But yesh... I am certtainly sorry for the other topics.

But at least now i know... ><"

Done and done. Thanks, man! I figured since not a lot of people are gonna know about import games, it might be more economical to have them all in one thread instead of a scattering of threads with one or two replies.

It's a shame you already ordered because I was going to suggest Mother 3.  Not only is it the best game on the GBA (I don't need to put in IMO this has been scientifically proven) but there's an awesome translation guide available.

Seriously, I don't know a single thing about ToI and I can probably sum up the entire story.

"In a world with magic and shit, a bunch of guys with super powers emerge and oppose a big church or something.  Naturally dogmatic and afraid of anything that isn't god, these church guys start chasing down and killing these magic dudes.  You play as some shy 14 year old kid who wields a big sword and has magic powers and he bumps into a spunky 14 year old girl that's being chased by the badguys.  Crazy adventures ensue and everyone learns something by the end of the game which usually involves one of the badguys redeeming themselves and another badguy dying to the secret badguy that was controlling everything behind the curtains."

Please tell me I'm wrong once you get the game.

Nope. I don't have the storyline on me first hand, but I do remeber it involving a god's reincarnation in a human's body, and the search to learn about said god's past, and why he died. Also, most of the characters (besides the main characters) really fall into cliches. The main healer is a wielder of dual pistols, the main attack mage a dagger, and so forth. I'll have to boot up my game again to remember who did what though.
