I need a Good Sprite Editor

Hi guys.  I started to make my first game and Im stuck between XP and VX but thats a different story.  Thing is I am looking for a sprite editor I could use to edit sprites mostly from VX but also XP, if any is available.  Im looking to do on VX what you could do on XP by default, which is change the color scheme of the characters, but since VX doesnt have that same feature, I am looking for a simple easy to use, yet useful sprite editor.  I tried loading the sprites onto Photoshop CS4 to see if i could change the color shading but it doesn't let me edit the file.  So if anyone knows of a simple yet good sprite editor that can help a n00b :P I would really appreciate your help   If it can handle any sprites be it XP or VX good, but if not, something more inclined to VX.  Thanks in advance :D

Editor in terms of simple color changing? GIMP.  In terms of spriting? MSPaint, GIMP, and (apparently) Graphics Gale all work.

Hmm, ive heard of GIMP, is like a PS copy or something like that?  as for gale, i tried it but didnt understand it, still have it though and it doesnt seem to run to smooth on vista.

Your problem may not be the program, it could be the layer when you import the file in Photoshop CS4? Could be locked, try copying the sprite from that image onto a blank image you create then try editing. This may work as I've had a few issues with locked layers in the past.

Thanks, it worked now im able to work with them.  :lol:  All i have to do now is figure out if to continue on VX or go with XP  lol, im bad at decitions

I guess this post still counts as support as it would be helping your decision, get a coin, decide VX/XP for heads and tails, flip it and then pick whichever it lands on. Or if you want to make an informed decision, go read the thread in RM Discussion.
