I got six teeth pulled yesterday. Ask me anything.

Some quickies:
1. It cost me $860 without insurance adjustment
2. It's so low in price because I worked it out with a local student hospital. Takes a lot longer to get into an appointment this way but damn is it cheap.
3. I woke up several times during the procedure, stayed up for a little while so I could feel the neat sensation of them crunching up my teeth and other stuff, and winked back out. There was no 'transition'. I thought I was up continuously for the last fifteen minutes but they told me I was drifting in and out of consciousness.
4. The whole procedure took from 9:15 to 10:30 AM. I walked out feeling and walking just fine. Your experience may differ. :P
5. I had two student doctors overseeing my operation. My 'head doctor' doctor, who is overseeing my case and making all the recommendations, and my surgery doctor who I met a week ago before this operation.

Two of my back molars were decayed enough that they couldn't have done anything for them. The rest were wisdom teeth I decided to get taken care of now rather than later because I can handle a lot more surgery at this age than I will likely be able to later.

Hadn't been taking care of my teeth, really. :X

It's not that I don't know how to brush my teeth. I just... forget. It's not a part of my daily routine. More of a 'oh right I need to brush' so I forget a lot of days because when I sit down and start working on something I tend to zone out everything else. So... yeah, I guess. :P

Well then mabye you should have a poster near stuff you do, saying. BRUSH your TEETH, i used to have a peice of paper with that writen on my pillow, that way i never forget

What sort of person forgets to brush their teeth ?

When I get up, I go to the bathroom, get some mouthwash and swish it around my mouth while I'm having a piss, turn around, spit it into the sink, turn tap on, wash hands and brush teeth, I'll NEVER forget to brush my teeth cause it just comes natural to me, lol.

And uhh... $860 for six teeth out sounds expensive, especially when you could take the molars out for free using ye olde techniques, not sure about the wisdom teeth haha, but it's all free here anyways o.O

Haha. It's actually really inexpensive. Here's the breakdown of all my costs so far:

1 Partial X-Ray: $20
1 Panoramic X-Ray: $35
1 Dose of Flouride: $5
2 Examinations: $50 (together)
1 Deep Gum Cleaning: $40
1 Filling: Free, got it out of a nice deal with my doctor that if I came in on an exam day of his I would be his patient and in return he would fill my tooth for free.
1 30 minute IV Sedation: $200
6 teeth removed: $400 ($100/tooth~)

Total: $750 (+ $100 in consultation and other misc. fees) w/o Insurance Adjustment

What my mother was quoted for one tooth by a private practitioner:
1 extraction: $4500
1 IV Sedation: $500
Total: $5000 (not adjusted for insurance)

You're lucky you get dental for free over there.

yeah actually dental work is real expensive. i've been needing some work, myself. i've been harboring 2 cavities for probably 6+ years now, but I don't have the cash to pay for fixing them, so I just take good care of my teeth and avoid sweets :P. i also want to get some whitening and some dental bonding work done to fix a few things but it'll all have to wait for better times :/

IDK how people can go without brushing their teeth. Food tastes bad, your breath smells, you get that phlegmy taste on your tongue ... bleh

Flossing too, your teeth and jaw just feel so much better and more relaxed after a good floss.

Yea you really should brush your teeth... they dont grow back and once you have had all your adult teeth you wont get them back (unless you have dentures :crazy.

Then again from all the crunching I was aware of I guess there wasn't much left intact after all the surgery.
