Hypothetical Question: Slavery

With labor slavery, I was referring to heavy work slavery, like it was 400-500 years ago with africans and native americans. That kind of slavery is still present in our days, not much time ago, people here from Portugal were promised a good work and payment (not office work and that stuff, obviously) in Spain, but when they got there, they worked and were treated as pure slaves. They got lucky thought, the police found out about it eventually. There is probably more out there.

And I'm also talking about heavy labor slavery, I just used smaller examples. Some people get off on that and enjoy that - on both ends of it. It's their kick is all I'm saying.

Some people have a thing, I'd think everyone has at least three. Sometimes this thing is to be treated like crap, willing-degradation isn't that rare of a switcher. Entire communities have developed for it. The only difference is if you're willing or not.

The unwilling slavery stuff is just wrong.
And it's still around today, all over the world. In every country. In every possible way. It's tied to the market, it's tied to government in some locals. It's never ending.

Thinking about it...

My question is if one is a slave if they choose to put themselves in that position? My definition of "slave" implies the lack of a choice. It doesn't have to be totally removed from your person.

In the context of someone participating in a sexual relationship that involves submitting under someone else: Somewhere in beginning of the question they made an agreement to allow the relationship to happen. The result of the agreement may resemble slavery, but there is the option of getting out. There is the option of refusing to get in. Freedom exists.

In my opinion, maybe we're in need of some new language here.

Although, I'll concede that in the fetishization of slavery, changing the term would probably lose the impact.

Lene, if once chooses to become a slave (regardless of which kind), there doesn't necessarily have to be the option to quit.
Also, the term isn't really the only fascinating thing about it... to be exact, the term for the fetish thing would be D/s (dominant and submissive), or wider known as BDSM (bondage, discipline, sadism and masochism). Slavery's only used for 24/7 relationships, and only by some. JFYI.

As BS said, but because it was brought up as slavery and is commonly known as slavery by the outside fringes which spread to those ignorant in the society that is what it is known as by the common.

The common define the stereotype. The common define the wordings used by the masses. Most people think BDSM and S&M is the same thing. Most people think BDSM and BBW is the same thing too which is funny. Hell some people think BDSM and Satanism is the same thing.

The problem with the wording stands as long as the common use the terms, and those inside and on the fringe accept to use the term as well - I've already brought up the terminology should be changed. D/S is fine, and is the true terminology, but how many people actually know that?
Hell I'm using the term slavery because it's simpler and that's how most people describe it as.

And slaves aren't always 24/7. You can be a part time slave. When you walk into the club you can be a slave for 3 hours and go home. It's not just diehards who use the term.

That's a first really... XD
My luck, always reading this stuff when I'm drinking... -.- But yeah, most people have no idea what it means really, and for the most, they go like "omfg sex, let's pretend it's bad and speak bad about it"... for once, that applies even outside the States ;)

For the term, I guess you could be right... I only heard it in the context in mentioned, but yeah... who knows what people are saying :p

I always thought Dominant/Submissive were pretty mainstream...in the sense that if you were talking about that, that was what you used. Actually this thread is the first place where I've seen it referred to as Slavery. Then again the idea of a "sex slave" isn't anything new, but for some reason I feel it's disconnected from just being a slave point blank.
