Hunter

- Hello, all! Yes, I'm new! I've actually browsed this forum for several months, this is just my first actual post.
- Well, my game title really sucks, I'm going to change it or maybe just add a subtitle sometime in the future, when I've
fleshed my story out a bit.
- I've used rmxp for about 3 months, this is my first serious game.
- Yes, I love Norse Gods.

The World
In the world, there are several nations. Two larger nations, Fenrir and Loki, which are divided by mountain ranges, and 4 smaller nations, Jormungand, Thor, Odin and Hel. Contrary to many games, the two 'father' nations are not at war, but nor at peace. Isolated by mountains, and with Hel's pirates controlling the seas, these two countries barely know each other, and are virtually unable to communicate. While Loki's vast size allows for an abundance of resources, both in minerals and crops, and most of its citizens are farmers, Fenrir is a country under strict military rule. Despite this, the citizens are perfectly happy  - there is no crime, there is always enough food. Connected to Fenrir by a thin bridge of land, Odin is a country which is virtually enslaved by Fenrir. Unable to farm enough food for itself, Fenrir lives of the fruits of Odin's labor. Jormungand in the north has a strong navy and so is free from Fenrir's rule.

Story
In an isolated forest in Northern Jormungand, A hermit lives in a small clearing spanning a river. Totally cut off from the world, he has lived alone for many years, until one day a seemingly timid young girl stumbles across his home and begs shelter. Though grudging, he agrees. Waking in the middle of the night, he finds himself robbed of precious possessions, and so sets off in pursuit of the girl. His chase takes him through land he hasn't seen in years, full of memories he would rather forget. After catching up with the girl, he discovers her reasons for taking what was his, and agrees to join her on a quest to fix what he played a part in causing many years ago. There is a darker undercurrent to Fenrir's apparent utopia, and Rayne may be the only one who knows the truth.

Back a long, long time ago, Rayne was a leading scientist for Fenrir’s military. Assisted by Rupert Baux, he worked on a chemical designed to slow the thought process, which would calm down anyone exposed to it. The theory was that they could drug any invading armies, rebels or even citizens who turned violent, thus eradicating the problem without violence. Rayne thought that this was a noble cause, and after many years he perfected the serum. Unbeknownst to him, Rupert had other plans for it. On the day of the serum’s public test, he released a massive amount into the country. Struck dumb, the royalty and army officials could do nothing as Rupert and a specially picked team killed them off one by one, in a coup of massive proportions. When the public awoke from their daze, Rupert declared that the royalty had been slaughtered, and that as self-proclaimed General of the Army he would lead the country. Still hazy from the serum, nobody protested, except Rayne. Appalled by what he had caused, he attempted to kill Rupert, but was captured by his guards. Stabbed and thrown into the ocean, Rayne washed ashore on Odin’s coast, and after several days recovering took a boat north to Jormungand, where he has lived since, regretting his actions in the takeover of Fenrir.

In the story of hunter, Rayne pursues Ferde after she steals certain memoirs of his past, including a powerful sword and his badge of office. Finding she knows at least some of the situation on Fenrir, he joins her in attempting to lead a resistance - which is difficult when nobody seems to realize that anything is wrong.

Characters
Rayne
Age: 29
Fight style: Swords, Disruption magic
Bio: Not much is known about his past, except that he had a post in Fenrir's military. He fled Fenrir many years ago and is hiding in Jormungand. He is solitary and holds no notion of loyalty. He does things his own way, without other's input, which causes him to clash with the outspoken Ferde. He is very quick-thinking and intelligent, but may lack some degree of common sense - he never considers the consequence of his actions beforehand.

Ferde
Age: 21
Fight style: Bows, Water magic
Bio: Ferde is a rude, outspoken woman who was raised in Hel. As is the custom, she left her parents at a young age to work as a farmer. After several years of hard labor, she signed on a coastal raider's ship. After a tempest destroyed her ship and killed most of her crew, she managed to rescue enough loot to purchase a small sloop. Since then, she has amassed a fair store of wealth by chasing down larger, slower ships and mercilessly setting them alight, then retrieving any surviving valuables. She sails to Odin and acts as a young, timid girl in order to trick her way into other's houses. Normally operating in the waters south of Odin, she traveled to northern Jormungand for unknown reasons. She is lively and energetic, constantly the center of attention. She has been known to work as a paid assassin in the past, but normally steals for herself.

???
Age: ???
Fight style: Staves, Life magic
Bio: ???
(A third character I haven't planned)

Rupert Baux
Age: 34
Fight style: Swords, Technology
Bio: Rupert was raised as the second son of a failing merchant, which meant that his social standing and chance for success were virtually non-existent. After his father and brother were killed in an incident he staged, he was adopted by the Fenrir military. Originally going to be a low-classed soldier, his smarts earned him a position as the head of the Fenrir technology department. He worked with Rayne is the chemistry department, helping him work on a special calming serum. When it was complete, he used it on the population, and used the calm as the opportunity to stage a coup. He is cool, calm and collected, very intelligent and very, very ambitious - though his ambition is somewhat sated as the leader of a country.

And my demo
This is about 30mins or so long. I'd appreciate any and all feedback, positive and negative, any suggestions etc. Thanks =]

- New charsets for Ferde and Fox
- Fox's name is gonna change. It just doesn't suit him, Rayne was much better.
- New battlers, and a face for Fox
- The music really sucks, It's all gonna change

If anyone would like to help, I need a music co-ordinator; Someone to find music for me and put it in the game in moments where it actually fits.

Sounds like a good start :)  I'm also new to rpg maker and this forum so I figured I'd comment on some peoples games before I actully start on my own.  But do stay workin on your game. It actully sounds kind of fun ^_^

Well, there's not much right now to comment on. The story sounds semi-original right now, but there's no information on your characters. What are their personalities? Physical appearances? I know it's still in development, but until you can add more information, it'll be very difficult to criticize and give some help.

It'll be interesting to see how you make this out to be, though. Good luck for your first game!

I like the story bit despite it being short and simple.  The world's information is devoid of information but in a good way to demonstrate how little is actually known.  Your world map needs a great deal of work, since it looks unrealistic.  Your post lacks too much info so there isn't much more I can comment on.  I'd try out the demo you have but 2 minutes is just too little.  :/

I put a little bit more info in. Unfortunately, I can't really say what the story is about without giving away the first half of the game, so I have to resort to lame subtle hints. Same with character info. I need a more cliche story!! I'm working on my game. I just really felt like actually becoming part of this forum so I could ask for help and stuff, and what better way than one of a million early project posts, eh?

That isn't my real world map. I haven't done a proper one yet, that was just so you could see the countries.

Why do we have to keep repeating this.  This isn't a hype forum.  Your audience isn't potential players.  They are fellow developers.  We don't care about stealing your ideas, being surprised by your game, ect.  Spoiler it if you don't want the casual browser to see.

What most of the people has the lack of is their creativity on mapping.

Sure... The maps looks alright but it can be alot better.

I'm not very good at towns, I admit that readily, but I thought my wilderness maps (valley and forest) were pretty good. What sort of suggestions can you make, as opposed to 'they could be better'?

I'm trying to convey that Fox is very silent, despite Ferde's attempts to talk to him. The [...] represents silence, whenever Ferde asks a question he doesn't respond. It's supposed to make you curious about him or something, I'm just not very good at dialogue =p

No other comments you can make on it? Any suggestions, things I can improve on and what I can do to improve?
