How to handle NSFW/18+ content on a forum?

I plan to create a forum,, with the basic premise being anything (lawful) is permitted, i.e. very loose rules. Now, I don't want to state that and then say "But no porn" because saying that would completely get rid of the point of the forum.

I'm wondering how to handle this shit? Have a board called "NSFW" and say "keep all NSFW shit in here and by the way you must be 18+"; or some other way?

(Not sure if this was the best place to post this, figured it was).

I know someone saying "ya'll must be 18" wouldn't stop me, likewise many people; but I also know this sort of disclaimer is law in some places.

Just need some advice on what you'd do :/

You will need to set your COPPA protection up to block all users under 18 first if you want to be legal, then you'll have to find a hosting service that allows adult content, which is harder than you may think.

If you're looking for hosting, I think nearlyfreespeech would be your best bet. As far as you're not doing anything downright illegal like say child porn, they should host it with no issues.

it depends entirely on the theme of your forum. if it's a VENGEANCE RPG ONLINE COMMUNITY then it's entirely logical to not allow porn at all. if it's a GENERL FORUM FOR DICUSSION BY TEENS AND FOR TEENS things are less clear, and if it's a PORN FORUM then this wouldn't even be a question

That's pretty much what I was going for in terms of rules, just without the spriting bit . I'll add an 18+ warning to the register page I guess, in big red bold text (everyone loves big red bold text).

You might want to open the forum only to a certain group (set to 18 years in the profile, via birthdate). Lemmasoft forums has a hentai art/visual novel submission forum which locks you out if you aren't 18 in your profile.

In essence, people can lie about it- Just include something in the TOS about falsified information and how you might end up in the slammer for it. (SiteName reserves the right to blah in the case of falsified information.)
