How really good old rpg are.

i think the story lines are better now... i was playing and old FF, and it absolutly blew... like: go get the crown thats in this cave because the evil dark elf king has taken over. YES, that is a TRUELY great sub plot. (sarcasm, SARCASM!) i think the RPGs are better now, i do enjoy a good old fashioned rpg once in a while though... but not for its storyline... jsut the overall game, because its so horendiously cheesy and laking detail, that its refreshing.

Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest

I hope you're serious. :)

I borrow ideas from FF:MQ for almost everything I do. Where's the Evermore lovers? It had a toaster dog and was one of the few SNES rpgs that wasn't made in Japan.

-Live-A-Live
-Shadowrun
-Superhero League of Hoboken
-Megami Tensei/Shin Megami Tensei
-Albion
-Illusion of Gaia
-Terranigma

All examples of superb old RPGs. Don't base judgement solely on games you'd know; there are tons of better games you wouldn't know.

How DARE you mention Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma without mentioning Soul-Blazer. For crying out loud, IoG and Terranigma were Soul-Blazer 2 and 3!

I'm offended!

The whole series was amazing, and I only wish they would make some more.

Soul Blazer was good, but I thought its sequels were much better, and hence more deserving of mention.

I thought that was a good game as well, but I felt once I abused the Dragon system it got real samey. And I thought the plot went downhill after Granbelos went under new management.

Old RPGs are kinda lame. In fact, new RPGs are kinda lame. Very few actually stand out at all.. Those being Paper Mario, Earthbound, and maybe FF9. Paper Mario was just a weird idea, Earthbound was waaaay out there, and before it's time. FF9 just had ridiculous characters that I personally liked.
A lot of oldschool RPGs like dragonwarrior, the 8bit FF games, early Zelda (pre-snes) were pretty bad. Maybe they were good for a time before deep storytelling and 4 minute CG cutscenes... but I digress.

My favorite RPGs on the SNES were (and still are, lol)

Earthbound and Super Mario RPG. If you want to count this as a RPG then Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
