How does it look so far?

It looks great so far but it's hard to comment on how the sprite will look given all we have is one very incomplete frame.

In that sense then I don't really have any tips at this moment.

it looks... blocky (is that a word?)... it need to be more rounded shouldnt it?, unless thats what yer goin for then... its great!

Could you post the picture that you said you had of the character? It looks great if you're doing what I think you're doing on the head, but if not, and it's cloth instead of metal, then you need to do what crazymew said and round it.

It looks to me quite dollish, kind of expect to see it in a bright pink package. This can probably be avoided by finishing the sprite, and smooth the lines, and softer shading.

hmm, dont seem to have posted it, where did i post it then? im sure i did coz i remember comments of it looking burnt...
well, the image is still in my photobucket :

and also about the comments about blockiness, i kinda figured that would come up coz i realize it is. the problem is, as seen from above, shes meant to have plaits, so when i try to fit that in, not only does it make it blocky, but look like she has madass frizzy hair! but ive already tried shrinking the hair, anymore and you won't se the back of her hair.

i also think the top part needs some shading still, what do you guys think?

This is my first showkaizer sprite. ive recently got back into rmxp after 1/2 years. and after seeing what I did back then:

Link removed. Please do not link to sites which contain unauthorized downloads of RMXP.

(they look like monkeys! lol, you can use them if you like, akia isn't too bad) - I did these on Windows Paint.

I have improved a bit, While i used to take aabout 4 hours or so, i took about 3/4 days, 2/3 per day, so thats about 6-12 hours in total for one sprite! even though I've got through more shortcuts to make it, I think it's the fact its slightly more detailed, dont think my npcs are gonna be too detailed, otherwise i would never get into making the game itself! lol.

One thing that bugs me about this is the purple, it was meant to be a cooler blue purple but oh well.

Tell me wht you think

Also, how do you do that hidden box again? Im sure I asked before but I cant find the post I was told how to. thanks.

The front and side sprites look decent, however, the back looks atrocious. Keep it up and I can see good stuff coming from you.

it is a good sprite, it's hair is well made (although a bit blocky in the front view in my opinion), the clothes are great, the back view hair needs work... and i really DONT like how its shaded... fer one it doesnt match the template... and fer two... i just dont really like that type of shading... alltogether tho, it is well made.

thanks for your comments evry1 :P yeh i know the back is a bit wierd, its just the fact the backs barely got anydesign to it. yeh, i got used to the gradients was easier than the way i used to shade them (as seen on the link provided), i know i need to detail the back more, will do before going on

Please don't create a topic just to post the finished version of a resource you already showed in another topic. Just update the first topic.
I've merged these two topics together.

Considering the rounded anatomy of the template, using a gradient was a horrible idea in the first place. Looking at your older shading, you were better off like that (aside from the gradient hair.)

Considering how long it would take to point out all the errors of the sprite and how lazy I am, I'll just tell you--you need to start over from scratch. Use logical shading and do it pixel by pixel, NO GRADIENTS.

I'll send Wings to this topic, so he can write you a novel on what you did wrong ;)

Well aside from the shading that has been mentioned, there were a few other areas that you can improve upon. First, the hair in the front view looks very large. Almost too large for her head. And it also seems a bit too squared off. You should make it rounded off a little more. And in general, for the front view, it all looks very stiff.

The side views were done better, but again, the hair seems a bit odd. You have her hair moving over her shoulder when her arm moves back. The hair should move back when her arm is back as if it were being pushed back by her arm. And when her hair does move back, you have an odd black outline around it. Also, on the front view, her hair is parted with large bangs falling over the left side of her face. That should be reflected in the side view. The left side should have that large chunk of hair over part of the face.

The back needs a lot of work as said, but one of the biggest things you need to work on is the hair. It doesn't match the front view at all. It has a different shape, length, movement style and the way it's shaded makes the color look different. Also, hair is never cut perfectly straight like that. Try having it taper down more.

her hair is strange... it's super big in the first row then very flat in the next two... then too geometrical in the last row... her clothing also looks too geometric. if she's supposed to be your leading lady get some curves on her... plus she seems to sharp in color or something... can't quite put my finger on how to describe what's wrong there...

|3_32 - wow, great work, some of the design is wrong though, but it looks soooooo much neater than mines. think one of the problems here is the fact the design is far more complicated than my old designs and its harder for me to sprite. maybe make the sprite less detailed but pictures of the charatcer more detailed? would that work well?

Itansha - yeh, i mentioned in the first topic (which has now been merged and at the start now ) it looked a bit mad. but its the fact she has plaits aswell on her hair that makes it that little bit bigger. as well as the angle, i tried to make it as round as possible, but couldnt. i can easily fix the hair problem as ive used layers so ill just switch it. and as for the bangs, well um, one side reflects a bigger piece of hair over her face than the other side which is what her hair is like. and yeh, the back hair is sooo wrong, or the back in general, im gonna have to figure how to make it look more detailed, i like the idea of tapering the hair. thanks :P and yeh, the front was when i never used gradients, so the color looks different.

tiganca - AHa! i knew the purple was to wierd. i think its thats whats going wrong there. it WS ment to be a more bluey purple, o well.

thnx evryone, its all appreciated. im gonna re-jig it. after all this, maybe i should have worked on the less important characters first, oh well, ill learn.

Here it is agin, tell me what you think.
