How can I fix a damaged RPGXP Project file?

I got the blue screen of death when performing a test run of my game and when I restarted the computer and tried to open the game file I get the error message "Unexpected File Format" and it just won't open, is there any way to fix this?

I doubt it. You can copy the Data, Graphics and Audio folder and place them in a new project and that should work. Unless the corruption actually lies in one of the Data files.

Good luck with it Ozz! :thumb:

Unfortunately I've already tried switching out files and injecting files from older versions, I know I should have backed up the files, I just didn't think it could happen, in the six years I've had this PC I've never gotten the blue screen of death before.

Ahh, the old BSOD. I've got it many times - first time is always scary. :smile:

Perhaps you can take a look at what the screen says and report it to Microsoft?
For all you know, you could've been infecting with some super RMXP-killing virus that causes the BSOD.

Have you tried to reinstall RMXP?  If it won't recognize any rxproj files then try reinstalling the program.

Also have you tried replacing the files 1 by 1.  It will help single out the problem file.

<scratching head>

the .rxproj file should only contain information relevant to the GUI, like what map you were editing the last time you saved, etc..
All of your project 'data' is in the Audio, Data, & Graphics folders.
Copy those folders into a new project, you should have everything.

Be Well
