Horrible Histories

This is why British kids TV is awesome.

Horrible Histories is the first ever kids show to win the predominantly adult "best sketch show" at the British Comedy Awards.

Dododo, an example:

Anyway discuss the show and books here I guess!

Did anyone read them as a kid?

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! British kids get a TV version of Horrible Histories???

Those books were my F A V O R I T E when i was a kidler, but i couldn't find very many of them!

The Egyptian one was pretty much what got me into Egypt in the first place. Hell, I wanted to become an Egyptologist back then and for years after, almost entirely BECAUSE of that volume.

Thank you for reminding me of them. I sort of want to buy all of them now so I can have them around if I ever have a kidler of my own. Those fuckers are GOLD. Should be required reading in every school -- nothing gets a kid more interested in history than learning about all the really weird shit, in an illustrated and amusing way.

They sold a box set here over Christmas which was really cheap. I missed out on it! I have probably 15 of them, the box set had 20 books in 10 which I didn't have.

I thought I had more than that, must be getting confused with Horrible Science.

Turns out there are more books. I have 20 now of the original series, and just picked up six of the larger format ones (Rowdy Revolutions, Dark Knights and Dingy Castles, Cruel Kings and Mean Queens, and three others). They're in a UK shop called DiscountUK for £1 each, which is ran by Poundworld, so probably in a lot of big cities, I know there's one in Newcastle.

Terry Deary has retired :( and announced the series' closure.
