Horde Castle *BETA!*

This is my first go at RPG Maker XP and I didn't change a lot of the system so yeah, and yes, this is a beta!

Story: You play as a young warrior living in a small village. It gets attacked by countless monsters. With the village burned to the ground and everyone, except you, dead, you grab whatever gear you can find and set out to find the source of the monster horde. Eventually, you find a mountain where the monsters seem to gather. The game starts from there.

Characters

Main Character: I'm aware the name is screwed up. Remember, this is a beta. The main character, he is a warrior that prefers a sword. You start with this character.

Arkalos: A Battle Mage you meet after entering the cave. He uses a spear imbued with magical properties, and is capable of healing himself and others.

And this is the download link. Savefile.com wouldn't let me upload the game as the .exe format so it has to be in project format.

If people like this I may expand on it.

1. Nobody's going to download your screenshots. Upload them to a real image host and put them directly in this topic with the tags.
2. I don't think that the project file is going to work (it doesn't have the resources packaged with it). Why didn't you just zip the exe like everyone else?

Yeah, you didn't upload the right thing. The Game.rxproj file's only purpose it to open your game in RPG Maker XP.
You should at least zip your entire project folder or compile your game with RMXP.>

Also, I downloaded your screenshots, and it's really painful.

1) It's painful to download. 2 BMP, almost 1MB each? That's way too much. Save them in another format like PNG or JPG and upload them on an imagehost like www.imageshack.us or anything else, then post them in your first post.
2) The battle screenshot is nothing special, looks like on of Enterbrain's promo screenshots, with less things in it. It's the usual XP battle screen, battlers and backgrounds, nothing new.
3) Sorry but, your mountain "map" is ugly as hell. Your mapping is horrible. I strongly recommend you to work on that, ask for critics in a mapping impovement thread and also look at some maps in here: http://www.rmxp.org/forums/index.php?topic=49752.0

@Phage: I should have known something went wrong. Plus I don't think I have any ZIP program so I have no idea how to ZIP a set of files.

@ Dargor: 1. It's weird how they were 1 MB each because when I uploaded them they were about 50-60 kb each. I had to upload to that site because Photobucket screwed over on me (froze my computer).
2. I'm aware of that and I've been looking for a side-view script and how to implement it. Also, I'm really new to RPG Maker entirely so I was just trying to mess around with the combat system.
3. Again, I'm new to the whole program so I should have tagged the game as a practice. I've been looking into those mapping things already too.

You can use WinRar to zip files. It's 100% free too.

When compressing your game-->File-->compress game data-->Encrypt Game Data(Check that if you don't want people to steal your resources)-->then compress.
What that will do is compress everything in your game into a single file.

When using WinRar, I've actually never compressed anything with it, only extracted...but I'm pretty sure it's easy and straight forward.

Note: All the code tags should begin in these qoutes: [word here] and end like this [/word here] . I couldn't do it though(add the last ]), because the site was reconigzing it and trying to carry out the function. Hope that makes sense.  :dead:

And like everyone else has said, it's best to post your pics on the thread instead of links to downloads and stuff. To do this, upload your image to photo bucket, image shack, whatever...then take the direct link(url to image), and paste it in between these code tags: [img....Image link would go here...[/img
If your using large images, it's better to put your images in a spoiler too because it's less distracting. To do this put this code tag: [spoiler.....[/spoiler...with the image code inside it with the url. Like this.

[spoiler[img...Your Site...[/img[/spoiler

Hope this helped.  :thumb:

@New Drew: Wait, WinRAR is FREE? Man, I thought you had to buy it for some reason.

@Avadan: What I'm wondering about that is why they got to that size.

@guitarshredderj: Thanks for the tags. I'll keep that in mind.

Also, I'm just wondering if the game I uploaded actually WORKED. Has anyone actually gotten a chance to play it?

It's because you saved them as BMP files. BMP is the largest, less compressed file format for images. Try to save them as PNG or JPG.

It says after 40 days you have to buy it, but I've been using it for years and it always lets me use it.
Indeed. There is actually no trial period, even though it says you have to buy it or uninstall the software after a 40-day period. This is not the case. The only thing you will be faced with in the free version, is a small window popping up every time it's launched. Just click close and you can use it just as if it was full version o.o
