Hi, i'm new and need some recommendations or a job.

Actually, i'm not that new. I signed up a few months ago, but didn't post that much.
To introduce me first:
I'm from Croatia (a lil' country across the sea from Italia, used to be a part of ex-Yugoslavia). I have been in RMXP since the start of this summer, but I never actually made a game because I always thought that RTP is way too ugly. Recently, I got in pixel art, so i thought of making an actual game. It will be something similar to this (AA wont be included, becouse it will cause a ton of problems I think):
tree_love_update2.png

The game will be sideview platformer, so I need some recommendations for a good ABS with custom sprites and animations.

Also, if you like my pixel art, you can hire me! For free or for money (ofcouse, the things I do will be better if paid  ).
This is my PixelJoint profile (you can see my pixel art here): CLICK

Awesome Bro

Hi there,

If you're looking to make a side-scroller platformer, I'd highly suggest using Game Maker instead, since there's a lot more you can do with it in terms of platforming, the only problem is it COULD take a while to learn.

Yada yada, enjoy your stay with us here, and have fun!

Yeah... I tryed using it, it quite easy (tho I did got use to RMXP). Do you know what BS is it featuring?

Game Maker doesn't have a battle system pre-coded. unlike RPG Maker, which is a toolkit for a specific genre, Game Maker is a full engine, if a rather simple one; any functions you want will need to be scripted in, although I've seen a few premade plug-and-play GML scripts floating around Game Maker's official forums which could come in very handy.

the upside of all that, of course, is that you have more options and greater control over all your game's aspects.

to make a platformer, you're going to need to learn scripting either way. the RGSS library contains very little that could be useful for making a platformer, and Game Maker is a blank slate. I'd recommend Game Maker over RPG Maker in this case, though, simply because many useful functions are avaliable through its drag-and-drop interface and won't necessarily need to be scripted, and you won't be fighting pre-existing code every step of the way.

also, welcome! good to have you here.

Man, your pixel art reminds me of this:

Also, if you're making a platformer, check out Multimedia Fusion 2 in addition to Game Maker. I've seen some really awesome things done with it. Haven't used it myself, but I hear it's quite easy and very powerful.

Welcome to .org!

Thank you VERY much for your replies.

@mawk: I dont see why RMXP would have to have scripts for a platformer. Maybe for jumping.
@Peri: I played some games with multimedia fusion 2. They are pretty good, have awesome gameplay. But is MF2 a mod for Game Maker or what?

as far as I know, RMXP's jumping is just having a sprite follow an arc from one point to another. the code might be resuable in a platformer, I don't know, but it doesn't seem very likely.

MMF2 is separate from Game Maker. I've never used it myself, but I know some people who have and they generally have very nice things to say about it, especially when it comes to platformers. it's probably more suited to speficially platformers than Game Maker, meaning you wouldn't have to do so much coding from scratch.

You'd need to code in all the physics for it in RM. I mean, theoretically it can do it, but why not use another program if you need to basically throw out everything that's already been done anyway?

MMF2 is a separate program. Again, haven't used it personally, but I hear it's powerful without requiring programming, and I've seen some impressive stuff done in a very short time with it, so it's worth looking into.

Oh, I see mawk just answered those questions before me. Well, whatever, I already wrote this, so I'm posting it. >_>
