Here's my noise

This is one of my first compositions. A word of warning though. I've never actually had any instruction in music theory. In other words I have no idea what I'm doing! But I'm having a lot of fun doing it! :haha: I guess I've found a new hobby.

This "song" is actually just a demo as its technically not finished. It will eventually be a BGM loop for a small village in a game I'm working on. I don't need it critiqued or anything, just wanted to contribute something to the RMXP community. Thought maybe someone might get some use out it. (if they're deaf anyway)

It works now.

I like this.

It's quite a peaceful tune, with the feel of content and ease. This is something I'd listen to while I fall asleep on the train to college. ^_^ I'd listen to this just for the tune.
But, I think it's a bit long for a BGM, isn't it? And, this has a definite begining and end, which a BGM doesn't tend to have. Regardless, this is your work, and I think its great. If this is your first composition, I'm really impressed.

Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, the version I'm still working on will loop when its done. As It's still a WIP and I just wanted to share something, I just chopped a little bit off the end and created a makeshift ending for it.

Great job. I used to compose a lot more than I do now (as I sold everything but my guitar...)
It's really nice to see a good quality MP3. And it's got a living non-simple piano lead. That's great.
The chords work well, too.

Anyway, let us know when you finish it. I really like it so far.

Thank you all for the nice words! I appreciate it!

FallaciaSonata:
I use MAGIX Music Maker 14 Producer Edition. Its great for beginners like me. My first exposure to composing was with the free app Anvil Studio. The jump up in ease of use was crazy. It seemed to take me forever to get a song to work in Anvil, but with MMM its a snap. I think I made Lunette in about 3-4 hours total. (which is fast for me)

Since you seem interested in making it more musically correct, I'll offer you three tips right now:

1) You shouldn't have parallel octaves in the strings part like you do. What I mean by this is that if you have a line that goes, A-B-D-C, don't have any other parts going A-B-D-C at the same time. This also applies to any number of notes, including just two, and at any spacing, at one octave or four octaves. You can sometimes get away with parallel octaves if it's in the bass line (the lowest line), but...

2) You don't have a very clearly defined bass line. I'm going to assume you have some idea of what a chord is (1-3-5, ex. C-E-G or F-A-C). The bass line should most often be the root of the chord (in the case of a C chord, C-E-G, the bass should be a C), and sometimes the third (E) if you know what you're doing. Using the third makes the chord less emphasized, but allows you to create a more melodic bass line. Again, just make sure that what you're doing is intentional, and not just because that's how it turned out.

3) Be very careful with leading tones. This is the 7th of a chord; in the key of D, where the scale goes D-E-F#-G-A-B-C#-D, the leading tone is the C#. In other words, the leading tone is a half step (one note directly, like a white key to a black key) below the root of the chord. There should never be more than one voice on the leading tone at once. This applies not just for the chord you're using right then, but for the global key the entire piece of music is in. For example, if you have a chord progression that goes E-A-B-E, and you're in the key of E, you should only ever have one D# at a time, even when it's on the B chord, for which D# is an important note.

If you try to apply those things I have told you, it should improve your composition.

Okay, so your link didn't work for me for some reason. it decided to take me to a quicktime media screen, and not play the file. I was under the impression that you had actually made a NOISE track - but i think it's safe to say that was incorrect after reading the comments. :0

anyway, rey meustrus has given some fantastic advice, and he seems to know quite a bit about what he's talking about!

I have it working now. No idea what happened.

rey meustrus:
Thanks for the instruction! Although I have no idea what you just said... I don't really intend to get too serious about it or study music theory, although it would be a lot easier to write a song if I did actually know how. It's just something I'm having fun with in my spare time. Truth be known, ill probably get bored with it in a couple months and move on to something else.

Very pretty. I definitely see this as a town song. I think it could use a little bit more variation. I don't know anything about theory and notes and chords so I can't give any advice except to say, do what rey meustrus said. Fiddle with it for another hour. Overall it's great!
