Awesome Bro

Hello HBG!

You may know me as Injury, but in real life *pulls off the mask* I'm John Fuller! I'm currently a 25U (Signal Systems Support Specialist), in the US Army. All this is the build up to what needs to be discussed.

I'm trying to build an online resumé, and I would like your opinion. Layout, styles, does it convey professionalism?

There is clearly a lack of portfolio worthy content, but I will continue to work on that.

I have also made this topic too discuss why you do/don't have a professional online/offline resumé.

Where does HBG stand career wise? Professionally, what are you goals? What is going on here! This might not fall into the Programming & Web category, but I think it's a serious question that we can all respect.

Will you be changing the header with the water and hard-to-read white words? I also think the words under "CONTACT" should be a darker. :P

It is quite nice, though!

Oh, hai John Fuller! I'm Stephanie Kay (my middle name/pen name for writing). :D *extends hand*

Yup! I was trying to find something I liked color wise. The water is a place holder for something more professional. I took that from my phone while walking.

It's all WP themes, so it's fairly easily to customize it all.

Do you have a professional/resume' site or anything your working on that builds up your professional image?

My Portfolio

I'm still working on it. I plan to change the new design to be less pink and have something like a cloudy blue sky in the background with green rolling hills at the foot, I enjoy websites that are charming to look at and navigate so that's the goal.

Just don't have the time, which is why the first page is an image dump with explanations.

I've been offered a few jobs through my website, so while it does suck it still serves it's purpose.

No...

But! I have been thinking about very recently, especially since I plan to be an author. I also have artwork, and probably other random things I could do.

I don't really have any major ideas of what I want to do for my "professional/resume" site actually. :( Maybe you could help with PMs? o.o

Of course! Let me know if you need some help, there are a lot of things you can google, but if you need some help in other realms, let me know!

A lot of people who are interested in our field here are lacking portfolios, and I just want to help/make sure even if we don't make anything amazing, time spent developing different things is something we can all benefit from.

Experience and a solid portfolio could be the difference from getting that dream gig you want!

If you are interested, please post and get something going! We have a lot of "pros" here, so let's put them to use!

Having a personal blog is fine. Revealing lots of stuff on there, probably not so much.

You should think about what you can do as a professional, write it down and think about the best way to convey your hireability to a potential employer.

A professional sounding email address is a start, from xx6969puss3Slayer1337@chixwithdix.com to first.lastname@yourwebsite, or gmail (often times I think it's more professional than yahoo, etc etc).com

A professional URL is also great.

firstNamelastName.me, .us, .com are always viable options.

The theme of your blog isn't too bad in terms of professionalism. No crazy color schemes or anything like that.

More to come!

What can I do as a professional?

* Write, and edit; fictional or articles
* Sketch designs and people; pixel graphics
* Type 60 wpm; fill out databases and spreadsheets

Things that are of relevant interest:
* Novels; fantasy mostly
* Gaming; indie games particularly
* Mental health disabilities; mood and behavior especially

So um, I'm not sure how to use all this for some website. O_O

I think it's kind of obvious you wouldn't throw your mental/physical health issues on your professional site.

Generalize some of the things you like that don't need specifics.

You are a writer and editor.

You are a graphic artist with an interest in 16-Bit style graphics (Or whatever relevant styles)

You have secretarial and data input skills relevant X field.

You enjoy reading various books, indie gaming and have a vested interest in psychological health issues.

It's all how you word it!
