Have you been addicted to a game before?

Recently, I've been pretty addicted to playing a game called League of Legends online. It's just that, getting that next kill, or getting a good score, feels really good and keeps me going from game to game.

To start a kind of small...study, I guess, I'm just going around asking;

'First, have you ever been addicted to a game, and if so, why? Even if it was the little things, like if it was a shooter just getting kills felt good or getting that next level felt good, what was it that kept you going?'

Yes, and its a weird one... I like game that lets you customise what you hero(s) look like.

- Fable 1,2, and soon 3... LOL
- SoulCaliber 3 and 4
- Saint's Row 1 and 2
- Mass Effect 1 and 2

As weird as you may think it is, that's exactly the type of thing that I'm looking for. x_x

With League of Legends, you get to build your character the way you want them to be, the way they're built, and aside from winning or losing, living or dying, that's one of the things that keeps me coming back for more.

Well...not the exact same thing as how the character looks, but still!

I've been addicted to many games. Most games I play I tend to play until I finish them or get bored of them.

Mainly though it's gone Adventure Quest -> RuneScape -> Guild Wars.

Grew out of them obviously, have yet to find a replacement so now I'm addicted to HBGames instead :)

Same as Thula really, I mean, I even bought Final Fantasy XIII with pretty negative expectations because of all the streamlining they did with the system, didn't like it for the first hour or so, although it wasn't bad, then it grew and grew on me, and by the end, I loved it, except that damn ending! Anyways, by the time I'd realised, I'd put 114 hours into the game, and I STILL haven't even Platinum'd it or got every Ultima weapon!

I pretty much get addicted to most RPGs that have endgame content, Final Fantasy X is my biggest RPG addiction though, played through it 7 times, and the playtimes ranged from about 50 hours on my first playthrough, to over 250 hours on my last one, levelling everyone up to get every node on the sphere grid, killing all the dark aeons, getting all the aeons and ultima weapons, as well as the limit breaker items, killing nemesis etc. etc, you get the picture, did EVERYTHING possible, got everything possible, I pretty much did 101% of everything there is to do in the game, lol.

Although right now, my addiction has turned towards Team Fortress 2, since I'd been playing it for a while before, but lost my Steam account, so made a new one last year, and the other weekend, there was a weekend sale of Team Fortress 2, £6.99, which was a bargain, so I bought it and damn I've played too much...

Although from watching E3, my next addictions will no doubt be LittleBigPlanet 2 (Since the first hooked me for too long it's embarassing), and the new Twisted Metal which, by the way, looks absolutely AMAZING!

i had a lil adiction to modnation racers for a bit. getting 60 hours in two weeks. also i had a addiction to PSU. in a year of playing i had over 2k hours played lol

if I buy a new game i play till it's finished :) i only just got Uncharted 2 and i have most of the trophies cause my first play through was on hard mode

Compared to the rest of you, I guess I haven't.
Sure I've played games where when I'm not home all I can think about is playing it. Most games nowa days don't last me more then a week. I couldn't sit around maxing out character stats if that's all thats left to do in the game.

I did a FFX-2 with Songstress only in a new game+ just to see if it was possible. But with the bloodlust, catnip, and ironduke accessories it felt like cheating.

I used to be addicted to Animal Crossing once^^lol, i know. I didn't realize you could change the clock, so i stayed up all night to catch the sight of the ghost at 4 am.
Also there was Super Mario 64, TLoZelda Ocarina of Time, Metal gear solid 3, Way of the Samurai 1 and 2, mostly 2.
Anyway these were all REALLY mild compared to the Animal Crossing one...

The Way of the Samurai series. I don't even know why. I am an avid fan of these three games to the point where I attempt to master every type of weapon available. Something about this series intrigues me :x

ditto to twirly

I'm also currently existed to bioware games having put a 100 hours into Dragon Age Origins (across 2 characters) and like 20 hours in the expansion. I also put about 150 hours in each Mass Effect 1 and 2 respectively. And then I have about 250 hours randomly dispersed across KOTOR 1,2 and Neverwinter Nights.

Can't wait for Star Wars The Old Republic :D

I know it's not a video game, but I was addicted to Magic: the Gathering for over three years. It got to the point where I pretty much couldn't stop thinking about it. And then Wizards came out with bad sets and I stopped altogether. Other than that, I guess maybe Mass Effect, which is strange because all the stuff to do in that game is pretty boring. I was playing for around 9 hours a day when I went through it.

Amen to that capn, I mean sure I've got the original for the PS2 as well, but oshit when they brought out the PSP version, I think I broke 100 hours in the first week alone... right now I've got a playthrough of over 400 hours on it, and I'm STILL not even maxed with everyone! D:

The game I've been most addicted to is Might and Magic (VII and VIII). I think I played Heroes of Might and Magic III, and Titan Quest: Immortal Throne more in overall playtime, but I wasn't addicted to anything as much as to good old M&M.
