Halo 3: ODST + Halo:Reach Beta

:L

What can I say? ODST looks awesome, and the Halo Reach beta trailer gives me chills.
I pre-ordered this and I'm counting down to September 22nd. Can't wait!

Though, what I posted about was to find out about Halo: Reach.

What is it?
Why did they make it?

Anyone got any information?
Theories/Thoughts very welcome :)

Maybe you should have checked the game out before you preordered it ? Just cause it's got "Halo" in the name doesn't mean it's going to be an awesome epic game y'know, in my opinion, they've been getting shitter as they go along, and the first was shit anyways, I don't see what's so special about them, they're just mediocre FPS's where you jump 3x higher than everyone else...

But from what my mates have been blabbing on about, I think one of them has you playing as a foot soldier or something.

All I know is that they will be horrible. Microsoft is just trying to milk the cash cow. Reach, I believe, is one of the first planets to be invaded by the Covenant. So I guess it will have something to do with that. Meh, who gives a fuck? Lay Halo to rest. :dead:

Are you serious? No don't drop halo. Halo is the greatest game i have and may ever have. Halo 3 was amazing and it only gets better from here. Halo 3:ODST Looks awesome and it most likely will be the best $60 i've spent in along time. Still have to pre-order my copy but working on that. I dont know very much about Halo: Reach yet other than it will be a prequel to the first 3 games.

True, Halo Wars sucks, but the rest are pretty awesome

rpgfanatic, you honestly can't say Halo is the greatest game you "may" ever have, cause there's so many games better than it, as I said, it's just a generic futuristic shooter, it doesn't do anything new for the genre at all, and it lacks so many features that are considered as the framework of a successful FPS by some people, for example, not being able to look down the sight of your gun, such a simple and helpful feature, yet it lacks it... Since Call of Duty was released, every other FPS has been copying it, and including this feature, because the devs have seen how much better it can make the online gameplay (Better accuracy = more kills = happy player), and yet Bungie, one of the most successful game devs, leave it out...

I'm pretty sure there was a reason to leave that out. Its meant to give certain guns different pros and cons. For Example. Assault Rifle: Pros-Fast Fire rate, good close range weapon. Cons: Poor accuracy no scope, etc. Battle Rifle: Pros-No shields=headshot kills, average scope, 3 round burst good accuracy. Cons-Not as good in close range as Assault Rifle. What you think is something the developers left out could actually just be a way the developers used to make halo different than the other FPS games out there. It adds more variety and challenges for the players to overcome.

And let me rephrase something. Halo is one of the greatest games i have and may ever have. I may have exaggerated just a little bit.

But the game doesn't add anything new, it keeps the same things as every other generic shooter, but takes away a feature that most people consider standard in an FPS, I don't see how you can say it's one of the greatest games you have, unless you only own that game, and maybe a game like Buzz. (The gameshow/question game...)

I mean, atleast the PS3 shooters (Exclusive), for the most part, add features not used in console shooters, two examples would be, if you read in the other thread I replied to you on, Resistance 2 allows console users to engage in big ass 30v30 games, which is bloody huge compared to the standard 8v8 of most games (6v6 in CoD...), while Killzone 2, for singleplayer anyway, is the first console FPS where you can hug the wall and lean around the corner much in the way of pressing Q and E on the PC Call of Duty games... AND it's got 16v16 online, which is double that of Halo 3, not to mention (Although this is going to sound a little fanboy-ish), both Resistance 2 + Killzone 2 have better graphics both on singleplayer and multiplayer* than Halo 3

*Because the graphics are reduced slightly in most games while online to keep the framerate as stable as possible...

Yes it is pretty similar to alot of the other FPS games out there in alot of ways. And sure the graphics may not be as great but when i look for a game i look for good gameplay, not graphics (altough good graphics is nice too) Probably the thing I like the most so far about Halo 3 would be The Storyline, and Playing on Custom Made Stages with friends. IMO The storyline is pretty cool and not too hard to follow and kinda keeps things interesting. Playing custom made stages with friends can be really fun as you can do alot of different things with them. It keeps things interesting. It all depends on what kind of things you prefer and if you actually have friends that play often, and for me, most of my friends play Halo which makes things more fun than any other game would be for me. Sure I could play any other FPS that is considered better than Halo, but if I didn't have any friends to play with it would get old and just sit in my pile of games again. It Really just depends on the player and their likes and dislikes.

I got ODST and I have to say so far it is awesome. It's got some cool new features and fire fight is awesome playing as Johnson. His smart-ass attitude gives me a laugh or two.

Well my mate got it through the post yesterday, played it last night, traded it in today... and he's a proper hardcore Halo gamer, he's ALWAYS on Halo 3, he said the campaign was like 4 hours long and terribly made, there was nothing that wow'd him (Although nothing wow's me in ANY of Halo games...), and he got £25 for it, so he basically lost £10 for playing a game he didn't like, and apparently was extremely short (There was a review somewhere saying it was short, but that was just an evaluation copy, didn't know the actual game would be so short, lol), I don't quite think it's gonna/has lived up to the hype that it built up...

It's just like I said in my first post;

"Just cause it's got "Halo" in the name doesn't mean it's going to be an awesome epic game"

/end.

Look at reviews. It's got just about a perfect score in all of the ones I've seen. It's so stupid, just because it has the Halo name on it.

So far, I've really enjoyed it. It plays closer to the original Halo than Halo 3 because health does not regenerate (you have to find medpacks) and the pistol is almost exactly like the Halo 1 pistol, and the shortness of the campaign is due mostly to the non-linear design and the fact that you can sneak past most covenant patrols. However, while it can be finished in 4 hours, it is more than likely the average gamer will take at least twice that, especially if they decide to hunt down all the audio logs and hidden weapons caches. I only played the firefight mode briefly during the two hours before launch at GameStop, but it was a lot of fun, and really hard. The notion that the entire team shares a pool of lives rather than each have a separate set was an intriguing design that works well in practice and causes more cooperation and teamwork for the most part. You don't want to go running off on your own, now do you? My only beef is the lack of matchmaking for firefight due to the fact that I don't have many real life friends, but I wouldn't really want to go through it with complete strangers.

I played the game.

Despite beign a huge Halo 3 nerd, this game was a dissappointment.

The concepts were boring, like playing as another character when you find a helmet? They just kind of break you off from the story tbh.

The game was more tactical than the usual bang bang bang advance, but is pretty much the same thing, and the visor thing was annoying but good at the same time. When playing the rookie, it's useful (because it's night.) otherwise, it's shit.

If they put in some sort of decent stealth system, more buildings to be accessable, it'd be better. Anywho, some good points:

Time as the rookie is pretty enjoyable. I enjoy the darkness... That sounded weird. The new weapons were a nice addition, but the pistol doesn't really remind me of the Halo 1 version. The horde thing was a welcome addition aswell, fun with a friend. The squad seemed human. ;o

Could do with some more things added to it (Wounded marines. It gets lonley in the big dark city. o_o), but overall it's pretty fair.

I finished the campaign (i havent played halo 3 yet) and i was actually impressed that i've finished it in one sitting (halo 1 and 2 took me 1 week and half to complete)

Story wise its a kickass story and the fact you dont have shields added more realism than i thought it made you in a survival state the VISR is damn great in the night though in the day the brightness is too high though i ended up using it just to have a visual indicator of my ennemie

One thing i found odd is that i almost didnt use my guns on brutes ended up striking them most of the times

Meh I'm enjoying firefight.

In my opinion its more of a team game, I find myself having loads more fun playing ODST with friends in comparison with regular halo 3 with I find can be fun just playing solo where if I play ODST solo I find it lacking.
