this isn't enough for concept development, even if it's just a straight fangame. you can't assume people know what all this is. I've never seen anything to do with .hack so I'm totally lost here. give us some details, bro! what's the Outer Dungeon? what's the Administrative Hacker Service Bug?

and tell us more about your intended features. surely there's going to be a battle system? a way to communicate with other bros? give us the details!

Where to start...

You really do need more info. I'd mainly put in an explanation of what.hack is and what the World R:2 is.

AHSB is a bit odd. What are you saying the bug does? Administrates Server Hackers??? Personally I'd go in the direction of the effect of AIDA, Artificially Intelligent Data Anomaly, on the game after the events of .hack//GU. You would think that it would cause all kinds of trouble, including data curruption.

My advise would be to avoid any sort of storytelling. Since it is a MOG, you aren't going to need to think up something major like you would in a single player game. Also, if you can think of a way... Host fun events regularly.

I do have a couple questions; Are you going to include the lost grounds and how are you going to work the portals?

If you're gonna post a Gdemooooo ooooo o then put up screenshots instead, seriously I'm not gonna waste my time downloading and playing something only to not play it and instead watch it doing nothing so I can see your graphics.

Also, seriously? An MMO? First game? At 10? I seriously don't see that happening, with X amount of free, more polished, hell even 3D MMOs out there with already thriving communities and a professional company at it's head and they don't have to have a kid half their age telling them not to swear on top of it (oh sorry that was ageist :/) why should we play yours? We don't even know anything about yours cept that it'll be related to .hack, probably only in name and being online (wait .hack was offline). On top of that we don't have to wait for it to be developed. And then there's the real .hack on top of all that to play.

I suggest either doing an original game or original online game if you really can't suppress the itch so that people will actually play this. I mean saying it's made by a 10yo isn't really a selling point. Also you can't really give an online game an age rating because as soon as someone says shit it jumps up to 15 or so, you can have it blocked in chat but if I put in a bunch of spaces or stars it gets through. That's why online parts of offline games aren't rated if they have chat or aren't an 18 already.

^ Quit being so critical. You were 10 once, maybe still are, so leave him alone. If a .hack// game is what gets him into rmxp I think it is great.

BOT:
Your graphics need quite a bit of work. You need to pick your scale because some of your tiles are made for smaller sprites while others are for larger...

Here I'll give you a Tileset that I was working on while I was thinking of making a .hack game a few years ago.


It isn't much, but it should get you started. I'll actually be updating it now that I've found it again... But to be honest, I'd use the RTP as much as possible.

I'll agree that it would have been better to do a smaller game, but like I said, if he learns to use RMXP by doing a .hack// MMO... But, you need to think, a MMO is mostly Large Maps. You don't have to do as much in a MMO as you would with a Single player game. Other than his spriting skills, he should do fine. The Backend though is what would bother me. I can script rather well and I wouldn't want to try to do all this alone.

In all honesty I would do this with an engine designed for this sort of thing... That is my only problem with MMOs on RMXP/VX. They aren't designed for everything you need to take into account.
 
ebhz.Ash.4rm (messed up that username five times) has a really good point, it's just generally a really, really bad idea to do this so young. I'm not saying ditch the whole project here. But the amount of work required to make an MMORPG is monumental, and it's always much more than people think it is. Much more.

Look, don't take this wrong way, but this won't be finished. It's just too much work for even most adults to handle. You must start with something small when you just get into this kind of stuff. mustmustmustmustmust. It's like expecting to paint the Mona Lisa after you've been painting for two weeks. You're just bound to end up with disappointment and frustration.

If you're confident in your idea then don't ditch the whole thing. Rather, take your idea, and modify it so that instead of being an MMORPG it's a single player game. Getting into the game making biz like this will not get you anywhere. It's great that you're ambitious but I'm just not sure if you realize how much work this is.

Anyway, if you're still really serious about this and have questions about this kind of stuff, I'd recommend shooting a PM to another mod, Wyatt. He's worked on an RMXP online game for years now and knows a lot about NetPlay and other MMO-related stuffs.

And honestly, you have a demo now, so it would probably be a good idea to make a new thread in Project Discussion asking for comments on it. Remember that you can have a thread open in Concept Development too as long is it is purely conceptual and has no screenshots. The thread here is still pretty empty so filling it up with more info is a good idea, especially with your planned features. Elaborate on your features and story, give us more details. More info = more critique :)

I've never gotten NP+ to work on XP. The net Module works great on VX though... I wonder why.
BTW: what do you think of my building?

@John Egbert: It isn't a demo in the slightest. Not to be mean, but I doubt it qualifies.

If you have the ability to script at such a young age, you should also be able to develop a better thread and plot :|

I havent really commented on any threads in such a long while but ive got to wonder if this is actually a wip or just a placeholder. Either way, good luck; I hope this isnt just a batch of ideas left to never be worked on, im interested in what such a young mind (if indeed you really are ten) can make. Like everyone else has said, making an mmo on rmxp is HARD work brah.

I mean saying it's made by a 10yo isn't really a selling point.

Depends on the product.
