Guild Wars

I hope this isn't against the rules, but does anyone have a trial access code for the original Guild Wars that I could use?  I want to try out the game before I buy it, or is there another way that I can try it out?  Please PM me the code if you have one that you aren't using.  Thanks!

So has anyone played Guild Wars? What do you think?

edit: I just got a white piece of card with my serial but no trial code. I bought this game the day it came out so maybe promotions have changed since then. Sorry!

Guild Wars blows. :P But that's just imo.

Besides, I found this by looking in Google: http://www.guildwars.com/support/gwtrial.php

Actually, that's the reason that I was asking for a trial code, because it doesn't give you one on that page lol =P  But wait, you probably are one of those World of Warcraft adicts aren't you?  No offence meant by that, don't worry. ;)  It's just that WoW adicts seem to not like Guild Wars that much.

It's fine, I think if I can't find anything before the 5th of December I'm just gonna ask my parents for it for Christmas =)

Since this topic has no point besides finding a code, im going to derail the topic and turn it into a Guild Wars discussion.

In the future lets try to have a meaningful topic instead of one thats just looking for stuff ok? You can easily find something like this on google.

It's the only decent MMO I've played (and it isn't really an MMO); and it has, for the best part, a good storyline and gameplay. I got bored with it though as they're crapping out and making Guild Wars 2, not making any new games for the origional line... they should've carried on with their two campaigns a year plan.

I've played WoW, yes (I have 3 70's..), but I'm not one of the "addicts" lol, I canceled my subscription earlier this year to save up for Warhammer, which I've canceled as well.. too many bugs atm. I'm just very picky about MMO's. The first one I ever played was FFXI, and it really ruined the whole genre to me, because that game just fucking blows, until I played City of Heroes/Villains. That one is much more of a casual MMO, since you don't have to "look" at someone to make a spell/skill hit, your character just turns to face the person. There isn't a whole lot of end-game content, but there is, however, shit tons to do with how you can customize your character in just about every aspect right down to the skills/powers you want, up to customizing how your entire character looks. The "final boss" guy in that game is this giant organism with cells that you have to kill. It takes a lot of people to take him down, around 100+.

And when I say casual, I just mean like.. you're not going to be outmatched in pve just cause you don't spend 7439827482937491238740982314782643 years getting equipment. All you gotta do is buy some enhancements for your powers (which can get pricey, but with the drop rates of recipes and the like, you can sell them on the Auction place for good prices) and you're set.

Well, I found the Guild Wars Trilogy Trial DVD and it's definitely better than I thought it would be.  In like 4 hours I have a level 4 character on both Prophecies and Factions.  Not very hard to do honestly.  Definitely want it for Christmas lol.

Guild Wars is fun but it's not really an MMO, so much as a co-op. For that though it can be really fun - it reminded me a lot of the good times I had playing Diablo II (which is no surprise since a lot of the people who worked on Guild Wars worked on DII before). Definitely worth a play, if you're doing it casually with friends. Arenas suffer from the same FOTM / equipment problem that other competitive MMOs do, and that becomes a big reason to not play it if you're into PvP, which otherwise doesn't exist in the game, but then it doesn't exist properly in almost any second-gen MMO anyway.

Also, and this is a huge gripe, invisible walls everywhere and you can't JUMP. That's bigtime annoying for me, but it doesn't ruin the game.

Suure just like WoTLK is definitely gonna fix all WoW's problems that made me quit playing :P I think the issue of time vs. skill is inherent in all MMOs, and MMOs have a vested interested in supporting the players with time vs. the players with skill, so the former always win out over the latter and get the most treats. It's an unwinnable fight, and no MMO with a subscription-based business model will ever fix it.

But wait, you say! Guild Wars isn't subscription based! I know, but for some reason they can't man up and tell the basement dwellers to fark off either.

I dunno, I get to kick some basement dwellers butt from time to time with the proper build. I agree Guild Wars isn't much of an MMO, but it's still a pretty fun game.

Oh, I kicked basement dweller butt on a variety of MMOs using inferior equipment and nonstandard builds, no problem. But you have to admit that the system is seriously skewed in their favor.

It is, but that makes it just much more satisfying to me when I do get them, whereas they have to go on a rampage and write poorly written letters to the devs to tell them how imba such and such is.

Oh yeah man. I had the pleasure of people telling me feral druids were OP after fighting me around patch 1.6 in WoW if that means anything to anybody. Same with affliction locks around the same time. Funny stuff, funny stuff.

I play guild wars. I <3 my Paragon :3

It's a really nice rpg, but a little unprofessional sometimes.
Definitely very fun, and it doesn't need grinding to keep you playing.  Can't wait to see what Guild Wars 2 has in store

Ingame, I am Mokou Huziwara or Kain Fy.

Holy hell, i haven't played Guild Wars in months. I've played it the past 3 years. I love the gameplay, definitely better than WoW, in terms of combat (my opinion of course), and it kinda went downfall when i finished all the campaigns, even though i have 2nd most expensive armor in game XD.

I can't wait for GW 2.

This Christmas I got Guild Wars Trilogy and the Expansion, and I really like it!  I have a level 7 Warrior/Elementalist named Sigurd Alance right now, and I have a ton of fun fighting monsters, gathering items, casting spells (maybe I should have done an Elementalist/Warrior character...), doing quests, ect.  One really nice thing about it is how you can click on a place on the map to go to it, saving boring, mindless wandering.  I do have to say, the armor is quite expensive, but well worth it.  One thing though, some spells don't have too many sound effects, but it's out weighed by the gameplay.  Hehe, I guess that kinda sounded like a review, but I don't know how else to say my thoughts.  I, too, am looking forward to Guild Wars 2!

I have played Guild Wars, but I haven't played it in awhile.
I don't like the way armor is set, because you can spend 1.5 Paltinum on Regular Armor with the same value of Protection but then you spend like 90 Platinum on Elite Armor thats supposed to look cool but still has the same value of Protection. Combat is great, the fact you can travel from city to city instead of running their (like in WoW) saves loads of time. I do like the fact that you can only hit lv20 and fight lv32 bosses. The games good and I'll like to make myself a boss to kill just for the hell of it.
