I use opencanvas,SAI, Photoshop 7.0, occassional Corel Painter X and Paint....

Just remember, its not the program you use that determines how good something looks.

I'm partial to Adobe Illustrator but it's a very difficult interface to learn, So it may not be your cup of tea.
