Gottes Reich's titlescreen (Need C&C really badly)

I have been working and trying to get a nice titlescreen for my game. However, I just can't get it right. I have two ideas.. simular, with minor differences. I want my title screen to be like carved marble.. something you'd see in Rome or Greece. *I don't know what I can do to make the words look like it's carved in marble. Here's what I have.*

Example one:

Example two: With the background piece, but I am not entirely sure if it's too much. I don't want my title screen to be boring, but honestly have trouble. I have just recently begun to explore with Gimp.

My whole goal is for it to look nice, but not boring, but really give it that WOW! factor! I think I am too close to the situation, and need some outside thoughts.

ok, my opinion, inconsistent themes here not really meshing well

greek/roman carved marble, german title, celtic cross. not doing it for me. i would rethink your direction

Okay, I thought the title had looking a tad bit boring, so I added something, and that something was the Celtic Cross. I wasn't sold on the idea... it just felt too busy. I tried runes just now, and it felt like it was too much. The only good thing is that carved stone looks the same every where. Legacy X, that did the trick exactly. It does look like it now, but with that one piece taken out... (Celtic Cross) Does anyone have any suggestion of anything I could add... since designing title screens, isn't my strong point.

Or this one:

first off the logo doesnt look very game-like. if it was presented on a game box people would assume its a book. The cross looks nice if u think its too busy u can always do stuff like desaturating it. I would try to improve the typo before doing layer effects , a gothic font like the one used in Diablo 2 then with your own customization would be good.

Change the gottes reich color closer to that of your background. So it blends a bit better, right now the bevel is barely noticeable

I've changed the title screen, and I even found a way to include the cross I wanted. Except it's the German version: the iron cross. My second most favorite symbol in the world... the first being the Celtic Cross. Here's the updated one.. I wasn't sure how changing the color would work, but you can really tell a HUGE difference.

I actually prefer the other cross as it's more ornate, therefore signifies more intelligence and complexity.
Anyway yeah that's the kind of font I meant and its starting to look more gamelike, though you did not customize it much. Make the kerning less because the G is over the left edge. Also work on your layer styles and make them seem that they are not "just" photoshop embossed. If people can see its just an easy PS layer style, a lot of people will think your game is cheap. An example would be in my avatar, its a bit hard to tell its layer styled.

I've only just begun to really experiment with (GIMP), and I really am a naive when other people are concerned. Sigh! I just am trying so hard to get it to look right, but I feel like it's just out of my reach. Maybe a good night sleep will enable me to see it a new way.

Well, since last night, I woke up and worked on my title screen a bit... adding a new layer and working with the old symbol to see if I could get it to work. It's my favorite, after all, and I did get it to look right... Like it was apart of the image, rather than just something to make it look a bit less empty. Here it is.

or this one, with one of the layers removed.

The second one looks the best, as the first one has some kinda border inside the font, giving it a rough edge.

I'd go with the second one.
